    Hey TW,

I am having an issue with the taco. I will be taking it on Thursday 1/19, but thought I would throw this out to see if anyone has any internet diagnoses.

I am getting a noise that sounds like something is loose on the drivers side, towards the rear of the engine compartment. I visually inspected and shook things but don't see anything loose. The noise is really noticeable when in reverse, and sometimes I feel vibrations through the gas pedal. I also noticed that when the AC compressor kicks on, the noise briefly kicks in, but the noise occurs when the AC is off too. Noise lasts anywhere from 2-10 seconds and varies in intensity.

So, let the guessing game begin.

Forgot to add I was hunting and driving on really mellow dirt roads. The undercarriage got a good coating of mud, but otherwise the roads were gentle.

The noise started after 2 hours on the highway heading home.

Loose like a rattle? loose like a click? Loose like a buzzing? Or loose like your mother?

Being the third child, the mother is definatley loose. I just walked out.

But the taco is more like a grinding or clinking noise.

Check out the video in post #4 of this thread. If it sound similar, it could be the fuel pump.

Thanks. I listened to the video but it doesn't sound as high pitched. Once I get the kids to sleep I will go make a video.

If you don't have the AC on do you have the Defroster on as that will Engage the AC Compressor?

Do you see the button label "upload a file" near where you write your messages? That should let you search for the video.

Per my searching, I need to upload to YouTube and then post a link. Time to start a YouTube account.

Ok, here is the link. Skip to the 14 second mark for the best audio.
This was going in reverse, very slowly.

Was really bad this morning. I am thinking it's worse when the engine is cold, but still there later. Can't wait to get it in. Thinking it's more of a grinding noise, not something loose.

Just heard from my service writer. They think it might be the mud from my recent hunting trip. I'm sure some of you guys have taken vehicles to worse spots, has anyone had a similar issue? Sound plausible?

I can't hear anything resembling clicking from your video. Maybe I'm just going deaf or my audio sucks.

Right after the key jingle in the half way mark. More of a grinding or flapping noise.

It sounds like somebody sneezing or like if a finger wiped across some fabric.

I hear what I think is the brake pedal Squishing noise toward the beginning of the video. Like a mouse fart

Well, they were able to replicate the sound, so it's louder than a mouse fart. But they are leaning towards mud as the cause. I'm just surprised that could be the issue.

My money is on a stone , stick, or piece of gravel which is lodged between the engine and the chassis somewhere.

I had a similar thing happen with the rear diff on my WRX when a stone got wedged between the diff and unibody. The vibrations transferred directly to the chassis rather than being isolated through the flexible mounts. The stone was not easy to find, because it was on top of the diff and there was no way to see it or get to it. I whoped on the whole assembly with a dead blow and it produced the noise...kept whoping on it till the stone shook loose on to the ground.
