In Florida a few years ago they started putting the plate number on the sticker to stop "sticker theft".
Other States put nothing, or they put a registration number on it. This does nothing as the cops must run the plate to get the info.

The whole point of using a stolen sticker is first glance of the plate nothing "sticks out" cop moves on.

Typically stainless, but I used some hardened, black oxide ones for my daughters car.

I wonder if this is why I see so many patrol cars with the automated plate reader setups? They read just about all the plates they cross, coming and going.

Plate readers actually do a lot, every plate entered into NCIC system will pop up a red flag.

So a California cops reader goes off as the car passes by, because a Florida Trooper entered it in the system when that car robbed a bank in Florida 5 days ago.
Nobody ever called Cali about the robbery,,.. the numbers in the system.

Wife got her plates stolen, didn't realize until we got pulled over with Helicopter and SWAT. Completely grand theft auto style, scariest and most unprofessional cops we had to deal with. They were yelling at us why we don't check our license plates everyday before we drive, WTF.

The plates she had on her 4runner were from another 4runner they car jacked. Yup, nobody believes us when we tell what happened. BTW I have yet to find anyone who checks their license plates before driving.

But we now check are plates not everyday but we do take a peek once awhile, hahahaha.

I don’t have a link. I typically use 1/4-20 with a nylock nut on the backside. You can get them in various lengths at Lowe’s or HD. These came from a local Ace Hardware. The rear plate is real easy to do on our truck. The Subie has plastic inserts in the hatch, so I used the largest one that would thread tight in the plastic inserts.
I would use a button head or pan head so someone couldn’t get pliers or vice grips on it. The nylock nut creates enough drag it needs a wrench on it to rotate it off.

Same for the front? Though it may differ depending on the car.

I only came on TW for lighting advice...now security? This place has everything! LOL

In CO the put the plate number on the sticker. Not sure how it helps, some people put the sticker wherever they want (middle, opposite), may are expired by 2 mo and a lot do not run a front plate (in CO you must have two unfortunately)

Nylocks are good for the reason you mentioned. I have yet to find these in black. I made a front license plate holder to get rid of the hideously tank like plastic front pate holder and will be using these types of tamper resistant bolts when the time comes. In CO the holes are elongated ovals.

When I was stationed at Fort Bragg, someone tried to steal the temp plates off my new car. They steal them to make it so they don't have to pay registration/sell/use on stolen vehicles/use on their vehicle while committing other crimes.

Caring about license plate thieves, yeah that's dumb. I get the reason you have to mindful of it. The problem is the whole license plate sticker non-sense. If it wasn't a thing then it wouldn't be a problem. One small thing NJ does right.

I do not see stickers on Texas plates, the is a few that have different vehicle registration laws.
Like buy the vehicle and tag and the tag is valid till the sale or loss of the vehicle.,.... NO yearly registration fees!
