I installed ditch lights and two low-bumper pods for:
-seeing at the farm after dark...usually because I have broken some piece of equipment that I need to remove/replace/fix asap.
-Lighting up whitewater take-outs/parking lots when getting off the river after dark.
-Making sure we haven’t forgotten anything at parking lots after a BC ski,Mt Bike, Paddle, etc...after dark.
Illuminating the construction site that invariably needs to get finished/cleaned up after dark.
Anyone notice a theme here? I’ll give you a hint...AFTER DARK. Anything above the headlights is asking for a ticket uncovered so I have Rigid covers that fit my CaliRaised ditch lights that stay on the pods 99% of the time.

Although they are required in WA, I don't run the covers. My switch is an overhead mounted Switch Pro, so no chance of accidentally turning on. Back when I was in high school, I was pulled over for having my giant KCs lit up on the roll bar. Previous owner installed a large toggle right where my knee would hit it. Promptly put the covers on and was let go with a warning.

So what you're saying is, lights are meant to help illuminate dark places? Is it ok if I use them in broad daylight to help see through my 5% windshield tint?

Also, more than 4 lights on is also technically illegal day or night. I found references of these in VA and TX.

There are a lot of people breaking the law here. Non DOT lighting, be it replacement bulbs or auxiliary lights, running more than four lights at a time, and blue lights or bulbs. Unfortunately, the police have too much serious crime to deal with that the citations just are not getting done.

Not to mention you're out by yourself in those scenarios. No other drivers in sight.

Now now now, we shouldn't be too harsh. The driver obviously has low self esteem issues and just wants to stand out. So he accomplishes that by running them during the day so everyone can stop, look in amazement while pointing and saying "look at that asshole!"

Running light bars on road, are for those who's mothers didn't give them enough attention when young.
Fine the idiots, banning the tool is not a good response, and is slippery slope.

Sounds like a bit of exaggerating. Headlights at night are way more distracting and blinding.

anything other than stock lights and they're not allowed to be on here. Hell
even if you have them they have to be covered here (VA) or you'll get pulled.

the problem is people use them when they shouldn't - there's no need for a lightbar on the freeway.

but just like the Harley aholes with their loud illegal pipes they claim it's for safety. it's not.

it's for looks and to be cool or look cool or get attention.

i'm not a banner, but some things should be banned. To me a light bar is for trail driving at night when visibility is a bitch.

The lightbars being used on the road are nearly as bad as retards with plug and play HID kit in reflector type housings. Almost makes me wanna be a cop and start writing a whole bunch of "fix it" tickets. Lol.

Yes, these are a problem around here too. I wouldn't be mad if someone extinguished their flame.

This all I needed on my last Rock Crawler was (2) old style 8" KC Daylighters and pair of very cheap $20 rectangular clear lens fog lights for my rock lights

Also had a rectangular KC daylighter for my reverse light and all of these lights were more than adequate for nighttime rock crawling

You never arrived to a campsite in complete darkness have you? Like one you 4x4 into? Helps immensely when you're dead tired, have dogs and kids you need to keep an eye on, and have a site to set up. Im not talking slab camping or camping where anyone is even near you. Normal headlights, even brights just aren't enough. Or how about you have an emergency where you need to get out of that campsite when it's pitch dark? So yeah, a fucking lightbar can make for a better camping experience. Your pointless rant is for on road use only.

The problem is you have a lot of people that can't think beyond their own ideal. What's good for one is not necessarily good for the other. For example someone that run in high speed on desert trails auxiliary lighting is necessary. For late-night trail driving, front and rear lights can be very helpful. Especially during a recovery situation. Some might also use them for area lighting or search and rescue applications. And some may never have used for them at all. Such as those that stay on roads and highways. The point is there is no excuse whatsoever for driving with them during the daytime on public streets or for that matter at night on public streets.

The mindset that oneself opinion is right and no one else could be, underscores a complete lack of wisdom.
