Headed home from work yesterday morning; just as I was turning into my driveway a Volkswagen Beetle flew up my ass.

    20230626_063105.jpg

Two broken ribs, sprained left hand & shoulder, severely strained lumbar muscles, and a few cuts and scrapes. My left side from my head to waist feels like it's on fire with the slightest movement.

The other driver was apparently uninjured.

Initial conversations with both insurance companies seem to indicate that her policy may have lapsed.

I bought my Taco used four years ago with about 16000 miles. Just rolled over to 35000 last week. A little over a year away from having it paid off. :(

Not sure what the replacement will be. I first thought about an '18 - '21 in similar configuration, but extendo cabs a rather hard to find. I guess a double cab may be in my future, but I really don't need the extra seats and prefer a longer bed. Going to a Tundra would be nice, but I think it's beyond my means.

    :(

    More pics of the carnage:

Dang bro, hope you make a full recovery. You’ll figure out the truck situation. Take care of yourself.

No seatbelt? No side airbag? Why so many injuries when the cab is in such good shape? Any pics of the bug?

Focus on physical recovery first, then worry about getting your stuff replaced. So sorry this happened to you brother.

Yeah, seatbelt was on and side airbags deployed. The seat reclined back almost fully from the initial impact, so I guess the shoulder portion of the seatbelt wasn't really restraining my upper half very well as the truck rolled over. Forgot to get a picture of the Beetle. Front end was pretty well smooshed.

Rest and recover, man that sucks but the next truck will be great.

I wonder if the other driver was texting and driving…..

A little of this and a little of that.
Dammit. Glad you are OK, and I hope you make a full recovery.

I just bought a ‘20 access cab, and I wish you luck finding a replacement truck.

Oh man! Sorry to hear of the accident!

I was also curious about the injuries wide side airbags on rollover... sounds like the seat back failed impact...

Best of luck with recovery and replacement!

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Damn! I hate that for you. Assholes destroying peoples shit everywhere. Glad you’re not too jacked up.
Shit happened to me as well, I sued the insurance got a new truck and bought a new motorcycle. Not sure how the insurance thing is gonna play out for you, if theirs lapsed.
It’s unfortunate that you work your ass off for something nice and fucking Beetle crushes your baby. Why is it always some POS that owns a POS that takes these awesome trucks to the grave.
What we need to different sections of roads. For those who can drive, for those who can’t, and for truckers.

This truly sucks on all accounts, the truck and your injuries. I hope you have a speedy recovery and I’m sorry you had to deal with a dangerously incompetent driver.

I would be interested to hear what the other drive claimed they were doing at the time of the crash.

That totally sucks. Just cruising, rocking out to some Metallica and BAM!

Let your insurance company handle the claim and they can sue her ass. Meanwhile heal up and get yourself healthy again.

There appears to be a gravel or such shoulder/lane that opened up before you took the turn. Is there a reason you stayed on the road instead of using that lane to slow into the turn?

Not saying this is your fault. It’s not. Video shows the other driver clearly at fault. Not second guessing your driving whatsoever. But maybe you have a future “mitigation” tactic for the morons?

    Get better.

Sorry this had to happen to you, but glad you're relatively ok.

I've had to deal with an uninsured motorist before, it sucks. They (insurance) can try and sue the other person, but I doubt anything will come of it. Ours has been pending since 2018.
