Glad you're ok OP. Sorry about the truck. Good that you're keeping your sense of humor through this. Good luck finding a replacement.

Dude. Sucks. Happy you are able to walk away, if not a bit broken/bruised. Was that a track from And Justice for All? My compliments on the quality of the sound of that dash cam. What make and model dash cam are you running?

Yep, Shortest Straw was playing. Unintentional headbanging occurred during that video.

I live in an area that has many driveways and side roads off of secondary highways.

Sometimes it's ok to move over to the shoulder and take the turn from there but many other times it's better to just stay in the lane. Otherwise people force close passes at highways speeds. Better to make them slow down behind you. Obviously this didn't happen here though.

I also didn't see or hear a blinker. I sure hope OP used it. In situations like this I turn my signal light on and tap the brakes a few times just for the lights well before actually breaking. Hopefully this draws attention from any vehicle behind me. Then I keep an eye on the rearview for situations like this. Ready to get out of the way or abandon the turn if necessary.

Shitty accident any way you slice it though.

Take care of yourself. Whatever you end up getting, do your best to not get something that was sitting in a parking lot for months waiting on a chip. (toyota has not had much issue with that since they were smart and stocked a years worth). Don't want something the rodents have been eating on.

With the way car prices have been going, be sure to get current value of the truck. My '19 has increased in value since getting it at the start of the fludemic.

You are usually better off occupying the lane when making a turn. If you had been driving a roll back or a similar tall vehicle with a flat bed the other driver would have been in bad shape. Once everything gets put back together, you could consider getting an amber light on the rear of your truck. Maybe the other drivers will see it, maybe they won't.

Unbelievable - a Bug did that? I got rear-ended in my '89 XtraCab. Stop-and-go traffic going out US1 to the Keys. Old couple in an older Lincoln Continental were trying to feed their dog (in the car), and just managed to hit the brakes before impact. They hit square on my trailer hitch ball, bent the hitch frame forward with about a 2-3" bow in the steel cross-tube, and folded the hitch, bumper and end of the frame down about 30 degrees. Didn't even touch my tailgate. The Lincoln had a solid steel front bumper, mounted on shock absorbers. Practically no visible damage to either vehicle, except for my hitch. We both continued on our way.

I cringe thinking about how much 'toughness' the accounting vampires have sucked out of these trucks. (But I bet they have a booming repair parts business!)

OP - Hope you are feeling better and have a full recovery. Thanks for posting the video, and for the info on the dash cam.

As for the critiques on your driving style, they missed quite a few things. It's obvious from the video that you didn't have a slow-moving vehicle warning triangle on the back of your truck, you didn't throw a road flare out your window to signal your turn, and you didn't serve coffee to the other drivers to keep them alert.

I don't think this was a test of toughness. This was a slow moving truck, with a fast moving car hitting it, essentially driving underneath the truck, lifting it and causing the rollover (which probably cause most of the damage). I can drive a wedge under darn near anything and be able to make it unstable and flip it with ease.

Regardless; we've been through this in nearly every accident thread. Any modern vehicle built for the road is designed to absorb energy in numerous ways to protect occupants. Replace or repairing vehicles is cheap compared to bodily harm or death. You could easily exceed our truck's value just surgically repairing a finger.

Lawyer up. Let them fight with the insurances re medical and automotive costs.

Do not talk to the insurance, sign anything or agree to any payments, direct them to your lawyer

Connect with the best orthopedist in your area for a full evaluation (not a chiropractor) and verify your condition or get on the road to recovery.

This is the type situation that a good lawyer is worth every dime. And let you take care of getting well.

Best wishes for a great resolution!

There was a guy on here earlier looking for a replacement engine. Your wreck could be a perfect donor.

You and @xb4r7x should connect to see what insurance says is the buy-out figure for the wreckage.

Other than that, focus on healing up. You might also want to consider a lawyer to help navigate the legal ramifications of this. Regardless of the other driver’s insurance status, you could go after her civilly (although I’m sure your insurance will already do this assuming you have uninsured/ underinsured motorists coverage).

blinkers or not is 100% irrelevant to the 'cause'. Nobody who did what you did is the problem or the cause.

The problem is people not paying attention to traffic around them - lights be damned. The Bug driver is a terrible driver and an irresponsible person by not watching what traffic is actually doing, lights or no lights, and you suffered the consequence. So sorry.
