In the process of finally updating the HU in my 17 Sport, i really miss Android Auto. Currently I'm running a key 200.4 on a custom harness obviously. I'm toying with the Sony XAV-AX7000. The Sony is rated 100wpc peak, 45RMS. I've been fine with the Key 200.4, it does as well as can be expected running from the stock Taco HU. My question is, is running the Sony off its stock internal amp going to be any less quality as far as SQ vs the Key running off pre-amp outputs from any other 4v or 5v pre-out? If the Key will perform better I'll just keep it and rewire and go with a non-high wattage HU, otherwise for simplicity I'd go with the ax7000.

For reference, the speakers are Kicker KS components, along with a key 500.1 amp and 10" Alpine type S @ 1ohm.

(Note: electrical is my specialty, 12v auto electrical is how I pay my mortgage, redoing wiring doesn't bother me.)

Personal preference, I just don’t like Sony units. They’re extremely limited in their settings and every one I’ve messed with has been laggy compared to similar-prices kenwoods and pioneers

What would you recommend in a Kenwood or Pioneer? Carplay and Android Auto are a necessity, wired or wireless. I'd prefer to retain stock USB location as well, but that's more of a PAC/Maestro issue I think.

Yeah usb retention is a simple adapter so don’t worry about that no matter what.

honestly, get whatever meets your needs and your budget. I’m personally just more used to the pioneer menus so I like those better. But you can’t go wrong with either.

for me, wireless CarPlay was a must, and an additional camera input for my front cam. I also wanted an HDMI input, but that was not a dealbreaker. Just figure out what you need and get it
