Sales figures are available online. The 2016 tacomas were sold more than any other previous year. But I would also love to see the real numbers regarding AT vs MT, TSB, lemons etc I would bet it's less than 1%

I'm not comparing it to a chipped F250... I'm comparing it to my 2011 Tacoma and my 06 Dakota. It's better that the Dakota, but not as good as the 2011.

I've never seen 22mpg, BUT different gas blends, different elevation, and different temperatures. Not to mention I pretty much have to drive 75 and I'm not geared for that.

There hasn't been any indication that they'll have it fixed in 18. I think Toyota is on a 3 year development cycle though so maybe?

I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of a long term strategy. Eat the shit now with the first couple year models just to get something out to compete with the GM twins and not lose too much market share, but also learn about and fix all the issues with this retarded new engine tranny combo. That way the T4R and later iterations of the Tacoma will be in a better position.

I believe my transmission fluid is low and asked the dealer if it was checked. They said they checked all the new ones that come in. Mine has a hesitation and sits there when I first put it in gear. If I let it warm up for about 5 minutes I have zero problems. I just say the hell with it, I'm only leasing it so it won't be my problem. With all the frame rust problems and other issues Tacomas are plagued with leasing is the only way to go. Good for 3 years then get rid of the junks.

Boooooooooooooo. You're in AZ right? Mind me asking about where? North or South? I was looking at Northern NM, Northern AZ as future residences.

I second this. Seems that AT owners complain a lot about their trucks, while MT owners have a lot more praise.

I own a '17 Sport MT and absolutely love it. I agree that you'll eliminate almost all complaints you might have by going with the MT.

Further South than I want.... I think. I did look at working at Palo Verde, and I guess it might still be an option, but I think I'd like higher elevation and a little further North.

But the increase over last years sales was only 6.3%. In 2005, when the 2nd gen came out, it was 10% over the previous year. Generally, sales trend up from year to year with a few exceptions I believe in 2010 and 2014.

Basically, you're operating off the assumption that increased sales somehow determines product quality. Not only do I disagree, but I think using the people in this forum as your sample, CLEARLY most people are not satisfied with their 3rd gen.

I love my third gen, but I also think my 2nd gen was just better all around.

This is true and there were a lot of people like me who were waiting for the Tacoma to get a face lift before buying. First production runs are always problematic across all brands so that's why I waited a year for most of the problems to be worked out so far I have has no issues and the vast majority of problems seem to come from the 2016s, even my dealer confirmed most issues came from early 2016s (not saying 17s dont have issues but I would bet far less)

I'm not operating on the assumption that product sales implies product quality. I would disagree with that. If I were to use people from this forum as a sample, again its the minority. Just because a few people post their problems does not mean it's the majority. There are a ton of people like myself who make almost no threads at all.

EDIT: If I recall correctly weren't you stirring up another thread about AT transmission issues saying they were problematic yet you yourself have an MT?

Ah yes I remember you!... you were the guy that used the term "PEBCAK" do describe why all these people have problems.

Yes, I drive a MT. And why do I have a MT? Because the AT I drove could not come out of 4th at 70mph on a flat road going into a 20mph headwind. And where I live, we call that a breezy day. An AT wasn't going to work for the conditions I was going to be driving in. Of course, it's probably PEBCAK...

And until we have those actual numbers, both your claims and mine are just that... claims. I guess we'll never know, so there's no need to worry about it.

I never described the issues people were experiencing as PEBCAK I only stated that it could be a possibility as I am sure there are cases of it.

You are very good at generalizations and misquoting people. I genuinely think you just read and hear what you want to believe.

Um, yeah, I have the 120K extended, bumper to bumper platinum warranty and every time I go in to have them fix something I am told this was caused by external sources. So warranty is worthless if a nature/regular driving caused a badly built toyota part to fail. I have spent close to $3k on repairs on my my '16 with 38K miles. Items that should have been covered by warranty.
