Hi All, I’ve been lurking for about a year and have finally gone in with the recent purchase of a 2015 Tacoma DCSB V6 4X4 Auto. It’s got 52k miles, the TRD Sport package, and by all appearances is clean.

it’ll be delivered in a week, and I have 7 days to walk away after for any reason. It spent its first few years in PA so I’ll be beating around for frame rust, and I’m having a PPI don’t by a local trusted shop.

Anyone have any thoughts or things I should be concerned with from the Carfax/Toyota owners VIN records or experience owning these be so kind as to share?

This will be our first truck so we’re stoked to have found a nice low mileage 2015 with V6 and 4x4!

    Thanks in advance!

Carfax is ok to eliminate a vehicle if you find something weird. Carfax is NOT an affirmation to buy if it's 'clean'.

Carfax data is unreliable in completeness, so it's only good as a data point consideration.

Your local shop is the ticket to your decision.

Looks nice, I’d buy it if I were in the market. 2015 is a great year for these trucks IMHO.
Good luck with the purchase, you’re gonna love the truck!

Welcome to the the forum but beware, your wallet will drain fast! Haha..

I have the same truck/year in a 6 spd, no real issues that I’ve encountered. My current mileage is in the low 90s. Your pictures don’t seem to have loaded and the link is only to Carvana, not your vehicle (since you have already spoken for it).
The surprise is that apparently my truck is worth a lot more than I would have expected. $30k for a 6-7 yr old truck that probably sold for $35k originally makes these vehicles a great investment.
    Welcome, and good luck!

I second the long term value. I have a 13 DCSB with a little less than 100K on it and the dealer wants to buy it outright for 23K. Too bad for them I love my black beauty...Wish you good luck on your purchase, and agree that a local shop looking it over is a million times better than Carfax. I live in Michigan, so we deal with the salty roads, the surface rust and the Fluid film every fall.

I don’t see the button for “underneath view” on the Carvana link. Otherwise it looks nice.

The current situation of not being able to get new Tacomas is affecting the used Tacoma market, and artificially driving prices up.

For example, a 2015 V6 DC Prerunner I was looking at in Jan 2019 with 56k on the odo was going for $23,500. A similar vehicle that is for sale now has 67k on the odo and is going for $28,900. 5k less for a truck that was 2 years 'younger' (doesn't factor too much with Tacomas) at the time, with 11k less miles.

I don't know how much the current economic situation is affecting this as well, but I think the primary factor is the above..

Thanks for the welcome! I fish and boat, so I know all about budget burning, lol. I look forward to stressing about another source of headaches that isn’t waterborne!

They certainly hold there value. That’s exactly $90 more than I paid for my 2015 when I ordered it.

Nice truck, if you mush have it go for it! But beware prices are ridiculous right now!

Two years ago I paid $30k even for my 17 limited 4x4 55k miles

If I were you I’d wait a year for things to level out with the semiconductors, etc.

Exactly, I’m keeping an eye on the situation for now. A year seems like a long time, but that’s what I’m hearing about all of these manufacturing and supply chain issues. Bicycles is another market that’s affected.

Would you say you got a great deal or an average deal on your 2017 for 30K 2years ago?

It was a corporate lease which is why the mileage was high and they wanted 33 for it so I’d say it was a good deal.similar Off roads and sports were going for around 28 at the time

With respect to prices being insane right now (like 20+ percent higher than two years ago), The only thing I’m concerned about in waiting until the semiconductor / manufacturing shortage next year, is what prices will look like relative to inflation that’s coming in the next year or so. In order for it to be worse a year from now, inflation from now to 2022 would have to be over 20%....

Luckily I’ll have the 7 day window after delivery. I have a PPI already scheduled with my mechanic, so if all checks out she’s already mine!
Thanks for all the input everyone! Now to find me a used set factory roof bars...

I sure hope so. I'll tell you, reading post after post about frame rot etc in the week leading up to the delivery of my truck has NOT been a healthy choice for my mental well being lol.

I'm not going to tell people how to spend their money, but the higher price could also be considered the opportunity cost of getting exactly what you want. In May 2015 I got the long bed version of that truck, in the color I wanted, and also with the JBL Entune upgrade. The salespeople were complete dicks, as they knew how rare the combination of everything was, so I ended up paying sticker of 36k. It was fresh off the truck, with two other DCSBs, and in a few days those were gone too.

I've had the best 6 years with this truck, and plan for many many more. So I think not getting a 'deal' on it was the opportunity cost to get exactly what I wanted. It's your money, so you decide what's worth it.
