Honestly man, it's less than 1% of all Tacoma's on the road. Theres about 500k of them on the roads and its outselling everything else by a landslide. We certainly dont have 5000 people on the forums with issues.

Just because it sells doesn't mean it isn't having issues. I take exception to the 1% number as being totally pulled out of your hind end.

If you can find 1% let me know, its certainly not found on forums or blogs. I think the only people with the real number is Toyota.

Well over 200k of them were just recalled for rear diffs leaking and another 32k were recalled for bad sensors. Let's not get started on the national back orders on parts for leaking Third Brake Lights or HVAC Blower motors.

True but recalls are unfortunately normal. GMC just recalled 700,000 vehicles.

I wonder how many of those Toyota recalls are 2016s and first production runs.

Recalls are normal id just contend that the third gen Tacoma is the most heavily criticized generation release in the truck's history.

Should have made this a poll. Go for the offroad dude. You wont regret having the multiterrain features, and the better tires from the factory. I dont understand why anyone would buy a sport.

Agree. If you're going to buy one I would not even consider the sport.

My truck occasionally runs great - if you get one that runs well all the time, you'll be in luck. Just drive it long and hard before buying like suggested. Pay attention to the shifting of the transmission, throttle response, and make sure you can live with any vibrations you may feel when driving it. Whatever you buy, try to get a more recent build date if possible. Seems fewer issues with ones produced this spring or later. Mine was a '17 and had several problems (and still does) that mostly seemed to be due to poor quality control and potentially the rapid expansion of the Baja plant. The design of the truck is great, the execution in assembly - not so much, the programming that controls the learning, shifting, throttle, etc., was far from done and is still likely to go through multiple revisions.

I want to love my truck... my wife's a therapist and so I can only draw a (terrible) correlation to the Domestic Violence cycle.... I love it, it treats me like crap, I deal with it, it starts to drive well again for awhile, then it hits me again with crappy issues I should have had to deal with on a brand new $35k truck. But perhaps I'm in the unlucky 1%.......

Hmmmm, if they're that bad maybe I should just get the Wrangler (my 2nd choice). If I'm going to deal with shitty quality control, at least the Jeep is the made in 'MURICA kind of shitty QC. :)

Well, the Tacos made in Texas seem to have many of the same issues from what I've seen. Just drive one - I'm grumpy b/c I feel like I was taken out back and beaten with MY truck sometimes, but there are certainly many folks who have never had an issue so it's likely luck of the draw... when the truck drives well, it beats the hell out of a Wrangler for a DD + adventure mobile and rides a hell of a lot better.

Let's be honest. The majority of Tacoma owners do not sign up and/or regularly post to Tacoma World.

You can see how many members have signed up (historically) in TW's site stats, you can also look at the # of Tacoma's bought since Gen 1 (Good Car Bad Car website). Overall a small percentage of Tacoma owners.

Additionally, of those people who signed up there are a large number to no longer view or post on the website anymore. So regular posters are a small percentage of truck geeks who want to sift through all the chaff in enthusiast truck forums. Look at the number of guest lurkers who do not sign up for an account or post anything. That, and there are other Tacoma and Toyota forums that people can sign up to.

My guess is that most people who have issues with their trucks might do some cursory research on the internet before going to the dealership and have them handle it or if out of warranty, try to fix it themselves.
