It was really in there. I had 2 spare CVs with me but I ended up having to pull the tube out to have any luck getting a good weld. No more Advance/AutoZone CVs. Hopefully Nanos luck is better :)

I'd try pulling the extension tube and smacking the entire thing downwards on a block of wood to see if you can get it to eject itself without disassembling the stub shaft.

Since you're far from home you could try and separate the outer stub shaft from the CV so you can assemble it to hold the wheel bearing together to drive on. Cap the tube as well as possible and make sure that shit doesn't leak

That's a tough break and a tight spot to happen. Goes with the territory though.

I had a pretty bad break down at Penrose on Patriot in the A-Hole. Both front shafts exploded, winch broke, and it was just myself and a buddy from Texas riding along. I've never stacked so many rocks in my life to get out of the exit. It looked almost paved like Colfax Ave in Denver without the hookers.

Breaking alone on patriot sounds like the making of a long day and night trek home

Update: took the diff tube off. I did a few things to try and remove the lil stubby to no avail. At the end I was pissed and just started slamming it on the floor and it popped out

By the look of it, you'll need a new cv axle seal as well. Just remember, 5.5mm seating depth.

Reason why I suggested tapping it out is because the diff tube is cast and you don't want that thing cracking on you.

I pulled the seal off yesterday cause I wanted to get the chunks of metal out. I'll fix it all up and do it right when I get back home.

Update #2: Broke an axle again yesterday lol. Good thing it was at the end of the trail. So I went to the nearest Oreilly's and got it warrantied then swapped it in the same night.

Maybe these Oreilly ET axles aren't so great after all :notsure:

Wheeled plenty and I wasn't gentle with my 4R; more weight to move as well.

Perhaps this one was a bad batch. I did far worse things with the other axle and it didn't break. This one broke out of nowhere.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Weird thing about your other one that broke in the diff looks like the c clip released the axle partially when it broke. It looked to be over an inch outside of the c clip engagement point in the differential where it snapped off. I figured that is why it dropped out of the diff tube so easily when it hit the ground.

This is why I did a manual hub swap. If I break an axle, I can just unlock and limp it out.

You just wasted money since the axles are thinner, therefore weaker. And I don't wheel without spares.

I hear this all the time but I've never seen a manual hub CV break at the outer stub, which is the supposed weak point since they're 26 spline rather than 27 like ADD outers.

I don't see many manual hub guys doing much wheeling, but I have personally seen them break under the most ridiculous circumstances.

Out of the 6 broken ones I've seen in person (my truck and another manual hub truck on 35s) not a single one broke at the stub shaft :notsure: I'm not super concerned about the perceived loss in strength

    As always YMMV

Yeah I just find it ridiculous that people swap to manual hubs "to limp just in case I break". I broke close to the end of Milt's Mile and still managed to rock crawl my way to the end in 3wd lol
