Toyota quality control to me is better than most car mfgs. out there. This to me is a unicorn of an error. Ford on the other hand has been making Broncos with two different tail lights and seats installed and delivered. Toyota is leaps beyond Ford in QC.

Is the engine assembled in Alabama? I think the transmissions are assembled there.

Totally agree, I'm not bashing anybody here, I'm legit dumbfounded that this is possible, even once!

EDIT: meaning, not the act itself, but how far it got!

Well i never considered Toyota beyond fault. I'd be more upset at a QC issue with the engine, trans, or safety devices on the truck. This is forgivable and shit happens even with the 'best' QC out there.

I have not seen any of this on the Bronco, other than the hardtop issue... What are your sources?

You'd feel differently if it was your truck and the plug didn't hold.

I guarantee you people at Toyota wouldn't consider it forgivable either.

Myself, however, I don't give a crap personally. It's intriguing to me how it happened, but as far as "forgiving" Toyota.........yeah, no grudge with me!

If the bolt fell out or it was leaking yes. But all is well and the bolt apparently still works.

I think it was a communication issue with a new employee at the plant.

The 6 different supervisors through the line kept saying to the line workers to make sure there is a washer on the drain plug bolt. They assumed to add an additional one....

You are correct - engine factory for the 2GR-FKS is in Huntsville.

Still shouldn't have left the line like that (the Ford ot Toyota) Owned Fords...never again. Still to me Toyota QC is superior to Ford or any other American vehicle.

Google toyota Alabama engine production plant videos.
Every bolt on my truck is marked. OPs truck was tempered(blue washer) by his dealer or he is pulling our legs. Not to mention rusts spots on the drain. Are they still salt roads during the summer in Canada?

Great discussion, like I said, I'm not upset at all. No harm... I used to work on a factory line and I know human error can occur.

    It was made in Texas

Great eye! So I used to live in Barrie, Ontario (right off the snow belt) and we got hit hard... but when I got the truck I was working way further north for a good 2 months... Canada sucks for salt roads, but I was under the impression that they didn't use that much salt up north since -15 degrees Celsius or below salt doesn't work and that's why they use more sand/dirt then anything.

It happens. Humans aren't perfect and cars are made by humans.

When these gaskets are produced, they are punched out by a machine. There are layers of material to form multiple gaskets in a single punch. When this is done, each piece forms a lip in the direction of the cut, on the inside and on the outside. That lip can hold the next gasket together instead of breaking apart. In this case 6 held together. I doubt there was a miscount and pans missing gaskets. This 6 gaskets was counted as one. And somehow passed unnoticed through QC. It happens.

I have had specialized bolts, bagged for specific jobs that clearly didn't finish production. The threads were there, the pin at the end, but the head was an unfinished cast. Not stamped into its finished form.... it happens.
