If you want to see how different things affect your credit checkout myfico.com. it gives you your credit report (you have to pay for it) but it provides your real fico score unlike some other sites. Also, it has a simulator that will show you how different actions will affect your credit. TBH i don't think an auto loan really increases it very much if I remember correctly from the last time i was on there. Opening up larger revolving lines of credit and keep your utilization high but your balance low creates the biggest boost, at least for me anyway.

Edit: it will also show you how different types of lenders see you. So a mortgage lender will view you differently than an auto lender and the site shows how you are perceived by each from a credit score perspective.

Are you saying that large, unsecured credit caps are raising your credit score? Those bring the score down

You are not penalized for having credit. You are penalized for using your credit too much. If you have a revolving credit line in good standing, and your average balance on that line of credit is a low percentage of the credit limit, that will help your score. If your are carrying balances on your line of credit or max out cards all of the time, thereby increasing your average balance, that could hurt your score.

Bottomline: if someone gives you a huge credit limit and you use it reaponsibly, you will not be penalized for it.

I should add one caveat to this. I do not like to use credit at all meaning I do not like carrying balances. Every purchase I make is put in a credit card and I pay off the full balance once every two weeks. Those couple of debits are the only ones that hit my bank account for any given month except for the mortgage and checks for property taxes, etc. I use credit cards to keep my bank information out of as many hands as possible. If someone steals my credit card info and runs up some debt I will dispute the charges and that will be that. I would probably be a bit more upset if they actually took my cash from my bank account though.

I do not like being in debt. I've been there before and I have no plans on going back. Having lots of credit equals having lots of temptation. I kind of buy into the Dave Ramsey philosophy, except that i do use a credit card to facilitate payment.

YEP this ^^^^^^^^ is how it works.

I have a 20 year old bank Credit card with a $36K limit. I use it every six months to keep it valid. I have a couple B of A card as well. What I don't have are department store credit cards.

THe credit score looks at the ratio of the amount of credit available vs the amounts owed. So if you have a paid off home and an unused HELOC for 100K and a number of high limit credit cards unused, the FICO will be above 800 over the long term. Actually one credit card pays me about $700 a year to use it. B of A gives rewards and then adds 75% to the rewards if deposited in the checking account. We try to use that card for everything and pay it off with a balance transfer immediately.

When I bought my truck I asked the guy in F&I how much I can put on a credit card. He said $3000 so I got the points for $3000 and made a balance transfer on my phone to pay it off before taking delivery.

I opened this thread thinking it was about price increases on the 2016s and not a lesson in credit. Does anyone know the % bump on the 2016s.

I started this thread about price spread between 15 and 16 but I don't mind that it went to affordability statements and credit...People can learn something from all posts.

Not sure of the % increase but I think the consensus on the leaked msrp sheet is between 2-3 thousand.

$3k increase from similar 2nd gen model/package, though you get all the new tech gizmos.

What line item are you using for base price..All I see are already configured prices for Sport/OR

What is the difference in the same set up for 2WD?

Meh, long story short use credit responsibly. TBH I doubt anyone on here is in the exact same financial or career situation so do your research before making large purchases. What works for someone who is 50 that worked for them when they were 20 won't always work for a totally different 20 year old today.

I have two auto loans. Both at 0.9%. Inflation in Canada is above 2%. Not to mention how the dollar is going off a cliff so our money is worth 5-10% less than it was when we took out those loans. We both need reliable cars to get to work, not shitty Dodge Calibers. I'm fine with paying for the right to have a loan. I also have a balance on my line of credit from renovations. Right now the company I work for owes me over 200 hours in back pay so I'm not worried about it. We just redid our mortgage. I received 0.2% under bank rate so my credit is excellent. I'm maxed out on payments so my 20 year mortgage will take 17ish years to payoff.

Point is, figure out what works for you. I can make all my payments just fine even with my wife on mat leave and my career is in such high demand I could find a new job ASAP if I needed too.

If so they will be offering 20% off MSRP instead of 10% to get anyone to buy one. +$2-$3k on final sales price is totally asinine.

I agree. I won't pay $34000 for a 2WD OR or Sport like mine with premium and Entune. In that case unless they gave me $29K for mine, I will be out of the Tacoma market and instead replace the 12 Mazda MX5 with the new ND series.

I paid $4500 (plus tint and Toyota running boards) to go from a 14 with 19K to a new 15 a couple days after buying the 14 used. I cannot imagine the spread between a 15 with 2K and a like 16 will be more than $5000. But it very well may be. I don't think the 16 is worth much more than that...IF I would have purchased the OR instead of the Sport , I would not even be looking at 16s.

That said the unpainted Off Road fender flares will only look good in a Silver or maybe white truck IMO every other color looks "unfinished"

um I think your are comparing the wrong trims/options. the first snapshot taken from the 2015 the entune plus is an option, in the 2016 its standard. the HH option in the 2016 wasn't offered in the 2015 so you need to compare the FE only version to the 2015. and I think the towing package is standard and no longer an option code of "TO".

edit: but I am not sure, just going by speculation and memory from before

Towing package is listed on the Monroney sticker in the South East along with $299 Mats. So MSRP is different around the country. The Moran family controls ALL Toyotas sold in the SE. (one of the reasons I go north to check prices

Just like Gulfstates in south central. Gulfstates controls all the inventory and configs and generally adds a bunch of "port options" that pad their bottom line.
