I bought a new 2018 double cab long bed TRD off road.. It came with the tow package. Does it also have an auto trans cooler and a trans temp warning light as well? I plan on pulling a 3500 lb gross weight trailer, and will be concerned if I overheat the transmission.. Thank you in advance. Chris

I would check the manual for your vehicle, it tells you what your limits are for towing, does it not? Could’ve sworn I’ve seen numbers in there for it...not sure if it varies based on engine or not but I’m almost certain it’s in there...have you checked that? Id be surprised if it weren’t...I can take a picture of the manual pages that has those numbers if you need it or don’t have the manual for whatever reason...let me know!

To be fair 90% of people have no idea what they’re looking at when they pop their hood.

True... I’ve got a 78 FJ40... things make a lot more sense under that hood than they do in my Taco. I guess everyone has to learn sometime. Now the OP knows too!

Thanks all. Yes, I know what a trans cooler looks like. I was more interested in if it had the AT overheat/light/buzzer on the dash somewhere. The manual explains it, but then has an * symbol with "if equipped" next to it....

Also, I would love it if it had an actual trans oil temp gauge in it....

Cycle the key on but don't start it (push start 2x no brake push)

It may also show in the HUD when it occurs.

You have ATF 2 temp sensors regardless if it has a tow package, so it will indicate with a check engine light if there is no warning light.

There is no way to display the temp except with an aftermarket OBD tool sadly.

I've towed flat terrain 5000 lbs at 90 degrees avg speed 45 for an hour with scangage hooked up showing no appreciable increase in tranny temp. Actually no increase over normal.
    Tow package V6.
3500 is a cake walk on flat terrain.

I would use a braking system on the trailer.

You will have to look in the rear view to make sure its still there its that smooth.
Remember to use S mode and ECT (Everyone Can Tow) switch. ;)

There is a warning light that comes on sort of .You'll have the gear display on the dash start to flash if over 250F I believe it is and you'll get a warning message when you hit 280F I believe. I could be off on temps but from what I've seen on here and what @gearcruncher has suggested (who's a transmission specialist) is that it comes on way to late .By the time it comes on your fluid is already cooked.

Best bet is scan gauge and code it with x gauge codes for trans temps both tf1 and tf2, tf2 is torque converter tf1 is pan

    Best way to know
And use ect and s4 when towing to stay out of overdrive gears
