Gotta learn to post in the 5 lug forum for some more seasoned help.

My concern would be the center bore size. The Tacoma is larger than many

You can check out wheels by marquee here For the final diameter of a package, use the tire calculator

Remember, staying with in the limits of the 235 75 15 diameter, going to a bigger wheel means you have less tire sidewall. This can make a harsher ride and allow wheel damage easier if your scooting around off road.

And there's more to fitment than lug pattern and diameter. You have to consider wheel width and offset as well. There's not a lot of forgiveness in a 5 lug

    Thanks man

    read everywhere Jeep rims fit
Im not set on 17’s just good deal within budget
    Absolutely NO off roading here
    (1st car for Son)
    I have a line on some others(sienna/Camry) but $300
    I’m thinking too big

I will research some more with your provided links above

Saw some members running Mazda 19in rims(way low profile)……thought these ^^jeep 17’s might work
15in Jeep steelies are fine in my book
(Can’t fine so far in my area)

If they are close to you go try one on the front of your truck and see what happens.

Or measure the bore diameter of your spare, and ask the seller to measure his.

I have an srunner 5 bolt so I have been researching wheels also. I know my Srunner has

    16 x 6.5

    bolt pattern
    5 x 114.3

    center bore
    67.1

    offset
    30

Most wheels have a smaller center. 2nd gen Tacoma 5 bolt have 60.1. So you can not install xrunner wheels without a machine shop enlarging the center a little bit.

Mazda uses 5 x 114.3 with a center bore 67.1 but I am not sure of the offset. A common for most OEM wheels is 45 to 50 ish. I am not sure that offset will work on the first gen tacoma.

I have seen lot's of 5 bolt 1st gen running around with mustang wheels. They have a center bore 70.5 so you need is the correct lug nuts. I don't think they need spaces.

just make sure you get lug centric nuts if you get a wheel that has an oversize center bore.

Those will NOT fit. The center bore on MOST toyota is 60.1. The center bore on a five lug 2wd on first gen tacoma is 67.1

I know mazda uses 67.1 center bore like the tacoma but not sure if the offset is correct.

You can use mustang wheels because the center bore is larger than the tacoma 67.1. You just have to use lug centric nuts. The offset seems to be also correct on some mustang wheels because lots of people are using it without spacers.

Timely thread…I’m searching for wheels for my 1999 Tacoma five-lug.

Almost learned the hard way about the hub center size dilemma while nearly buying a set of Corolla 16” rims. Styling, bolt pattern, wheel width, offset all looked great, but a test-fit wouldn’t seat correctly due to the 60.1 hub center bore. Then the seller whipped out a set of 1/4” spacers “so they’ll fit good…. everybody does it this way.” The idea being that the spacers took up the 67.1 hub lip and left the wheel to sorta center on the shouldered lug nuts/washers. Nah.

Backed out of that deal, but wondering if ANY Toyota rims are compatible with “lug centric” acorn nuts? I’ve seen aftermarket alloy wheels with steel inserts that are lug centric when used with a smaller hub diameter. Not elegant, but would have worked.

I researched the machining the wheels to fit the 67.1 hub. There’s are zero operating machine shops in the San Francisco Bay Area who’ll tackle this work…several tire shops mentioned an older guy who moved to Fresno, but dismounting/remounting, shipping and fixture setup would push the
    cost out of feasible range.

Talked with US Wheel in Texas about fabricating slip-on concentric adapters, but they’d probably require longer studs and cost around $300/set, and would mess with the offset.

So, Mustang wheels with 67.1-70.5 concentric rings (about $30) seems to be the logical choice for us cheapskates. Does anyone know if the Toyota lug nuts/washers work with the Ford rims?

Sorry for the ramble and any thread jacking…lots of directions here!

I asked one machine shop also and they said no in the bay area.

Most aftermarket wheels have an oversized hub center bore so they will work on multi make cars/trucks. You just have to make sure your lug nuts are lug centric.

bolt pattern 5 x 114.3 is very very common bolt pattern.
    https://tirewheelguide.com/pcd/5x114.3/

67.1 hub not so much. seems like most car companies went to the smaller 60.1

If you get the correct bolt pattern 5 x 114.3 and hub center 67.1 or BIGGER then you just have to work out the offset.

Like 1995 mazda rx7 wheel 16x8 is 5 x 114.3 with hub center 67.1 but the offset is +50. I think that would hit on inside. It would probably need wheels spacers and I am guessing probably longer studs to go with the wheels spacer. etc...

using the factory srunner wheels 6.5 width +30 offset vs rx7 wheels at 8 width and +50 offset shows it almost exactly the same on the outside but on the inside it goes in an additional 39mm. I am thinking it
might rub or not fit at all. upload_2023-8-11_13-27-9.png

    ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!

seriously, now I would rather re-install the $160 in Rockauto parts that took me 3 weekends and several school nites then do math on this wheel swap!

    enough of my whining.

1st of all, thanks for all responses/advice
    I absorb.

as I just found out, I’m kinda looking in wrong areas/sections. Appears I’m applying incorrect info….ugh

Seanhwy…..thanks correct….60.1 for 75% of CL toy rim ‘deals’ I have found
Not grinding away 7mm of a circle
    Not an option now
Jeez, after a week of searching and writing down possible direct rim swaps, I’m more frustrated than ever

I’m going to start searching for mustang rims on CL
    AND
    Look at your threads
    Thanks again

Is it feasible/safe to use lug centric lug nuts on a hub centric alloy wheel? I always thought you had to have steel inserts in the wheels to match with the conical
    lug centric lug nuts.

    After some searching
Assuming all these stang rims are 5 X 4.5 with 67.1 bore or bigger….
    94-97 16x7
    99–03 (v6) 15x7
    94-98 16x7.5

Which rim would fit(as far as wide)
    ??

Man, I feel your pain on this topic! I’ve been looking, learning and finding more and more ways to not finding a set of wheels for my ‘99 Tacoma!

Seems like Mustang wheels with hub centric rings are the most feasible, but going from a stock 5” rim with 34mm offset to 7” or 7.5” rims with 40+ offset is a challenge.
Looking at the actual truck with a stock 5x14 steelie mounted, it looks like the inner clearance issue is at the upper ball joint…although a 16” or bigger might clear with the additional backspacing created by a wider wheel and more offset.

Spacers might help, but anything thicker than 1/4” might separate the rim center bore from the hub’s 67.1 lip, and lose the hubcentic “engagement”.

I’m planning on lowering my truck, so tire/fender clearance becomes a concern the lifted guys don’t have to worry about. I wouldn’t want a wheel much wider that 7”, so that limits the choices too.

I’m thinking of search for wheels with larger than 67.1 center bore (other than Mustang) that have less positive offset, or wheels that I’m certain can use lug-centric lug nuts.

    The torture never stops!
