Needle bearing, for sure. Good description of the sound and the speed range is spot on for that specific problem. Sometimes they still make the noise in 4wd when they're really bad. When the sound starts right after installing a lift/ level, the noise will go away in 4wd.

My needle bearing didnt really make that sort of noise. It was more of a feel in the pedal sort of thing. When i thing "throaty, gurgling," I think loose air intake tube at the cowl.

I usually don't hear those noises unless I'm in the bedroom with the better half of me, but you do you, at least she enjoys it in the truck:rofl:

JK, I would think carrier bearing but you've shot that down, does it happen while using A/C or Heat?

Perhaps. It just plain stopped doing it. Haven't heard a peep for about 3 weeks now.

If you haven't changed all three of your U-joints I would do that now. At about that same mileage I had similar noises and all three U-joints were bad and solved the problem.

Another vote to check (or replace) the U-joints. I did that and the carrier bearing at the same time and it helped, but didn't completely get rid of the initial vibration. I may have to play around with dropping the carrier bearing a little bit and see if that helps.

I had to take my truck to the dealer for analysis. Initially, they claimed they could not locate the noise while on the lift. It was only audible while under load. They installed the sonic locator underneath for ($175) and isolated the rear passenger bearing. I had them replace it for $880 including tax and 15% off Costco coupon. The bearing came in a housing and the part was $540. Good luck!

I would get under there and tap the exhaust with a rubber mallet, start at the back and work your way forward. I had a similar noise and it was just a rock trapped in between my catalytic converter and it's heat shield. Remove the heat shield, clean it, reinstall it, no more noise.

Check if the noise is only present when cold.

If yes, try 4x4. If that stops, that looks similar to a note that is mention in the Tundra's owner manual where the oil viscosity in the transfer case is making the front driveshaft turn slightly even in 2wd which does a noise.

Mine seems like it does that, too.

I have 2WD. I check motor mounts and no play. Truck have about 83k miles. Our trucks doesn't have hydraulic filled motors mount to do they? I doubt it though.

I'm getting some type of rumbling/vibrating noise with mine, and I really can't tell if it's coming from the engine or underneath. Usually it happens during very easy acceleration, around 1000-1500 rpm. Sometimes when the engine is good and warmed up, and I'm sitting in Drive with my foot on the brake, and the a/c compressor cycles on, I can hear it. I dont think it's the a/c itself, but there's just a certain rpm that causes it. I thought maybe it was my K&N intake vibrating, but I remounted it using rubber washers and I still hear it. It's not a tinny metallic rattle, but more of a muffled plasticky sound if that makes sense.

If I really romp on the throttle, I don't hear it at all. Every time I open the hood and stand there and listen it doesn't do it.

Found this thread and it matched 90% of my symptoms.
Bought 2007 Tacoma with 85k miles. The growling was annoying beyond belief.

The solutions turned out to be TSB EG044-07 Air Intake Rattle.

Interesting, I have the same symptoms on a 2015. Grumble is worse about 1000-1200 RPM. Sounds like the right front area. I'll have to check the air intake, maybe something is loose.

Well, this one was not RPM based, it was more speed/gear-based. On a straight line 38-42mph or at 5mph while turning on a parking lot... or on a slight elevation of the road.

I came across this thread while researching a similar issue on my 2017 OR 4x4. The noise seems to be drivers side front not insync with the engine but does go away when I am going faster. Only at very low speeds under very low throttle do I hear this moaning/grinding/vibration noise. It started out on the Mojave Road after a bunch of woops. It only used to happen in reverse but today coming home from work I heard it until the truck warmed up then it went away and I could not hear it anymore. But... a week a go I had just got home from work, the truck was good and hot and I heard the noise backing slowly into my driveway. It almost sounds like a loose skid vibrating when the engine is at a certain RPM but I have been unable to figure out where exactly it is coming from. By the time I get somewhere or get someone to help me listen to where it is coming from the noise is gone. Any ideas?

Hear me out for a sec..... could it be the low hanging exhaust vibs on the transfer case skid?? But only at certain low RPM?
