for the most part you are right. but IMHO it dose not take a robot to not have holes in welds or not go all the way around a tube.

I can see newlife’s wing sticking out 1” farther than the finder from across a parking lot.

I understand that, and mine were nowhere near that bad, but the guy that welded them no longer works there. And Eddy has offered to rectify the situation. So why blast him?

Nice name by the way. lol

Don't speak for everyone on this. That was an opinion. One that I don't agree with. I would notice. I also build things in my garage with no tables or fancy tools and my welds are perfect, pieces aren't warped, pipes are cut same length and bent to the same angles. Those are not minor flaws. That is poor craftsmanship. Proper knowledge helps a lot and can be learned but craftsmanship is hard to teach. It's more of a born characteristic of yourself where you're either a "perfectionist" or you aren't.

I have no fight in this matter as I don't have any product from him. I just know that the flaws pointed out are not excusable by simply stating "he's working out of his garage" and if that is the excuse being used then it seems only reasonable to warn people of the quality of the product they are getting to give them the choice of being ok with that or wanting something nicer.

I don't have any experience with Eddy or SOS concepts and have never even seen these bumpers in person, I will say though that I have installed my CBI bumper 3-4 different times and each time I end up with it sitting slightly different. ( Too high on one side, too far right, too far left, etc.) It certainly wasn't a fabrication error but rather an error on my part or a difficulty in install.

The only time it has been spot on was when I had someone with me tightening the bolts on the cradle on each side a little at a time while watching to keep both sides even. I was surprised at how much of a difference it makes when all is said and done. Don't know if the same difficulty applies to these bumpers but it certainly is difficult to get a plate or tube bumper to line up perfectly without really putting some finesse into the install.

Again don't want to cause any problems, I don't know anything about these bumpers, just trying to offer up similar experience and possible solutions.

I’m not trying to blast him. thats fin that they are not welded with a robot they don’t really need to be IMO, but also imo that dose not mean holes and cracks in welds are ok.

pretty much Any thickness of metal can warp given enough heat. There is a few way at limiting it even without jigs. I also understand that spending more time doing things would increase the price slightly. also under stand that having different people helping you things can turn out different than planed or how they should be.

Alright let me clarify lol, first I didn't see the pictures of the white bumper in the first page. Yes those are pretty far off from left to right as far as the tube angle. And the welds aren't the best. I was more speaking of having the bumper not be level side to side. Sometimes that can be a result of the body not being perfectly centered on the frame woh respect to the body mounts. I agree the welds are not excusable and the bends could def be made better. I do not own an SOS product so I have no skin in the game either way either

My issue with this that a few people have brought up is this...

As a business owner. Your name is on the hook here. Such as this case. If your laborer is doing sub par work and you allow that work to be passed to the customer it is on you the business owner. At no way shape form should a customer ever have to eat the sub par work. The business owner should always (Especially when dealing in small numbers at a time) overlook their laborers work. That's why so many companies have a quality control person..

The white bumper is mine. I am not a fabricator by any means. The tube on my bumper measures 1" longer on the passenger side than the driver side. To me had both tubes been cut at the same length prior to being bent my pass side would not stick out as bad.

Haha It's all good man. And yeah I agree about some things could be tweaked between different trucks. That is very plausible

Sorry op you had problems. Just wanted to say, though I did not get one of his bumpers, I purchased sliders from Eddie and I was very pleased with the product. Welds and everthing were good. Also just wanted folks to know this may be a small portion of his product, not a norm for him.

Any manufacturer (garage or fully tooled up shop) that produces a significant volume is going to experience problems at some point. For me, its how they handle those problems that makes them stand out. IMO those are the guys that will stand the true test of time and endure the stresses that are put upon any business.

Sounds to me Eddy responded and tried to offer a fair resolution. He also confessed about issues he had with other orders which he did not have to do. He also identified the root cause of his problems and implemented corrective actions plus owned up to them. [IMG]

Its unfortunate that the OP was one of the few that got a blem, but not defective product.

Eddy built my bed rack back in Jan of this year,(not completely on topic but close enough) and i'll say that he is a hardworking dude who's willing to inconvenience himself in order to get the job done, i've came back to his house just once to get some touch up work done and he didn't even charge me for anything. If i ever need anything skid wise, i'll be hitting him up for sure. Its unfortunate that some people got a product from him that was less than desirable. I think its just a minor issue that can sort itself out, especially with bringing this to the surface for all of TW to see.

That's what my previous statement was implying. I just don't see an excuse for poor craftsmanship.

I've also noticed that numerous people, that have commented in here about a product they received, have stated that they too received a lesser then desirable quality product and much like what the OP stated in his first post have no desire to talk bad about Eddy or his company but still inform people of the quality of the product they are receiving. So as stated earlier that it's not the norm, it appears that it may be the norm and everyone just hasn't cared enough to publicly point out their unhappiness no matter how big or small the problem may be

There were only 3 or 4 people, so far, to state comments on the quality of work. How does that justify as "numerous"? Where are all the other members who have purchased sliders, bed racks, bumpers, etc. Eddy has had multiple customers, where are the others?

Its not 100% clear to me whether Eddy wrote that or if its a direct quote of a PM from the OP. But I thought I read that Eddy offered at some point to exchange the bumper.

Either way I'm not willing to put my life on the line over any of this. I just know from my personal experiences of trying to start a biz of making custom aftermarket parts, its not an easy task especially if Eddy is doing the fab and handling the communications, and marketing.
