Hey tacomaworld. Having trouble fitting my SOS sliders. so backstory my good friend ordered sliders from sos about a year and a half ago and had a problem with the fitment on the driver side. He explained it thoroughly to me because SOS had apparently gone cold on him saying it was his truck that was the issue. He ended up having to grind down the corner of his driver side slider to get it to fit. Fast forward a year and half later, I decided to bite the bullet on sliders from SOS as well despite the problems he had. I got them in today and installed the passenger side in not time - what a breeze I thought. I then moved on the driver side and after getting everything bolted down I noticed there was still a gap between the slider plate and the frame. Hmmm.. take a peek under and low and behold there’s a pin on the driver side that’s not on the passenger side, and there’s no cutout for it in the slider plate. I immediately FaceTimed the said friend, and it’s the EXACT same problem he had that went ignored and blamed on him. I’ll attach some pictures so you guys can visualize the problem. Super frustrated because I’m going on a trip in 2 days and was told by Eddy I don’t need to do ANY cutting for the sliders whatsoever.

So here is the passenger side 100% installed. Took me about an hour.

slider plate is flush on passenger side (Yes I know I forgot the washer shhh)
    D28728D1-4030-49E2-B3E6-FA030F5A200B.jpg
Now here’s the driver side. Got everything bolted on and noticed this pin that has no cutout for it, leaving a gap. And yes, this pin is definitely stock.

Notice the gap? There’s a pin directly above the bolt as you can see. But no cutout for it. This pin is ONLY on the driver side.
I’m just frustrated that a 2 hour install is about to turn into a 5 hour install. I emailed Eddy before ordering to make sure they were 100% bolt on, and he assured me they were. Thinking if they would’ve listened to my friend a year and a half ago when he had this problem, they would have fixed it. Rather than blaming it on him. Sorry for the rant and I would appreciate any ideas. Super bummed

    That sucks.

But at this point I'd drill a hole in the proper place on the plate and hit it with a rattle can. :burp:

I don’t have any power tools with me right now which is why I wanted to make sure no drilling was required. I could drive to my place (3 hours in the opposite direction as my destination) to get to my power tools, but I’d rather just go to Lowes and buy another drill rather than 6 hours round trip. Will probably do that tomorrow. Just frustrating.

Best bet is to use a grinder with a cutoff wheel and make a notch where that rivet is it won't harm the slider at all. Is the trip you're taking going to need to use those sliders?

I’m going out to Colorado for a few weeks to do some camping with my friend. Not sure if I’ll need them or not but better safe than sorry. Haven’t needed them as of yet (clean rocker panels :) )

What year is your truck? I have SOS sliders on my 2011. I don’t recall having a gap like that.

2005 TRD OR. Can you check to see if there is a pin above the farthest back mounting point on the driver side?

Just went out and looked. My 2011 doesn’t have that pin. The slider is flush against the frame.

My friend has a 2009, and I know his has the same pin. Maybe they updated it in the later years. If they would’ve listened to him, instead of saying the pin “wasn’t suppose to be there” maybe they could note it on the website or something. My frame is 100% stock, never replaced.

That is odd. I ordered from SOS when they were still a vendor on here. Never had any issues. I don’t recall ever seeing this mentioned before I purchased but it’s been a few years since I got mine. I too wanted to make sure they were no drill.

Did either of your frames get replaced under the recall?

No sir. Mine is the original and so is his. He’s got quite a bit of rust on his frame but mine is squeaky clean for a 16 year old truck.

Think I could saw the corner off with a reciprocating saw? I know a grinder would be ideal but I don’t have one on hand. What do you guys think?

Mine is a 2015 and I have SOS sliders. There is no pin there on my frame. Seems this is an oversight on their part for which years have it and which don’t. Sorry for your problems man, that’s frustrating.

Yup.. just wish they would have taken my friends feedback rather than blaming it on him. I have SOS concepts skids and front bumper. I thought my friend was mistaken because surely a company wouldn't blame fitment issues on the paying customer trying to give feedback.. which is why I ordered the sliders anyway. I would be happy with the only outcome of this thread being them not guaranteeing 100% NO drilling (quoted from website.) maybe more like 95% no drilling.
