I have researched the hell out of this project and have read the "how to" posts by Mountain Lion HERE, and Fortech HERE, (both excellent write ups) but cannot get my truck into "check mode" after putting the transmission in PARK. I do get the "TRANS TEMP" light to blink for 2 seconds after going from Neutral to Drive after performing the 6 shifts (N to D three times for six shifts), but when the truck is placed in Park, the Trans Temp does NOT blink again after shifted back to drive. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Here are my "specs":
    2013 Tacoma LTD, SR5 4WD 4.0L.
Transmission has been drained as has the trans oil cooler and I have replaced per the write ups with 4 qts of WS tranny fluid (more than was drained).
Does the transmission have to warm up MORE (it is cold) before the 2 second trans temp light indicates check mode? I was under the impression that it would blink twice two times, once after the initial 6 shifts from N to D and then again after placed in Park, is that not right?
ANY help GREATLY appreciated. My back is killing me!
    Thanks in advance,
    Ken

I tried to get the truck into check mode one more time. This time after performing the 6 initial shifts from N to D and getting the "TRANS TEMP" light to blink for two seconds, I left the truck in Neutral for a few seconds more. The Trans Temp light came back on and stayed ON, even after I shifted back into Park. I checked the transmission fluid and about 3/4 of a quart came out (about what I expected), BUT I noticed that the lines going to/from the transmission cooler were still cold to the touch even though engine coolant temp was about 188 deg. I think that the truck was in Check Mode, but am concerned that fluid did not circulate through the transmission cooler. Is there a transmission temp sensor that does not allow fluid to flow through the cooler until the truck gets to a certain temp?
I am concerned that if there is a thermostat that only allows fluid to flow to the transmission oil cooler after fluid reaches a certain level that I may not have put enough fluid in. Anyone?
