I was sitting in my truck the other day, thinking the volume seemed low, So I turned it up to about 30 which it maxes out around 50 and the volume still seemed a little low. I started playing with the fade ect and the rear speakers when faded at the back and on volume 30 are garbage you still can hardly hear the and now it is only 2 speakers one on each door but still I can't get over how shitty the quality is,

I did fade it to the front and it was 10X's better although there is the 2 extra speakers up front as well. Would something just not be hooked up right causing the low volume or is the system just awful and cheap?

Are you playing music from a Bluetooth device like your phone? If the volume on your phone is not high, that could be your issue.

Several threads on here discuss replacing the head unit and speakers as well as adding amplifiers and subwoofers. They are worth searching for.

    Oh look, another mod....
If you have the non-JBL system, it's total shit. You have to crank it all the way up just to barely hear it. There are kinda-cheap upgrade options available to you, if you want to upgrade it. (changing out speakers, the head unit, amp, etc..)

This has been noted for many Tacos. I don't know why, but it is weird that my ACLB seems to have equal power going to the rear speakers. Usually listing at about 15. 30 and up is pretty loud.

On my Access Cab (non-JBL), the front speakers can get very loud but rear seems quiet. It never really bothered me because I normally have the rear speakers all the way off because my dog rides back there.

Normal. The head unit naturally plays the rears so quietly that they might as well not be there.

You can amp it, but honestly balancing front and rear doesn't sound any better than amping just the front.

A lot of people just replace and/or amp the front doors. I personally replaced and amped all 4. It's better than stock, but again, the debate rages on whether I wasted money doing so.

With the key amp properly set (50x4 RMS), windows-down loud is 30, ear damage is 40. I've never tried 50. Yet.

Mine is a double cab, I do run Bluetooth and have ran into the issue where the volume on the phone is lower, From the sounds of it a non JBL system is awful. To get a better sound system it sounds like you would almost have to change the whole head is that right? or would speakers and a different amp make a difference

Speakers plus amp plus 30 bucks worth of sound mat in the doors make a humongous difference. It really depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. Some people just do the speakers and tweeters and are perfectly happy. Others meticulously soundproof every square inch of the cab, run dual amps, dual subs, component speakers, DSP, new head unit... And still think it's trash.

Hence, why its important to have an end goal in mind of what your definition of "good enuff" is. Otherwise it gets out of control fast. :cookiemonster:

To be fair, the JBL sounds bad too, unless you do a speaker upgrade :notsure:

Agreed. The JBL isn’t all that either lol but it’s good enough for me.
