while i can see how it would make more sense to sound deaden the truck while replacing speakers, my question is, have any of yal put down deadening while still using the stock speakers?

my logic (may be ass backwards as i have had bad ideas before HA) is that if i can eliminate a lot of the vibrations and resonance the sound quality of the stock speakers will improve slightly, allowing me to keep volume levels lower (and still get the loudness i want/dont have to overcome the resonating sound) and prolong the life of the factory speakers.

i would just be doing the doors as door panels are quick and easy to remove.

eventually i will pull the full interior and complete deadening the truck when i finally install an amp and upgraded speakers, but that is not for a long time.

I have not done it, but it couldn't hurt. However, why not replace the speakers while you are at it? Any aftermarket speakers will generally be better than the stockers. Just installing some sound dampening material is a lot of trouble to keep the crappy stock speakers. Check crutchfield for some speakers that will fit the truck with no modification, it would be really easy since you will have the door panels off anyway.

ya i know what speakers i want to run, and the need an amp to reach full potential with them. sadly i cannot afford to spend $700 on speakers/amp that i am after.

i would also imagine that the sound deadening would slightly help control inside temperatures as well?

I am currently at this very stage of my build. I deadened the doors and got rid of a lot of vibrations. Still running stock set up at the moment while more pieces come in and planets align.

Is the OEM system better now?

    Minimally.

Was it worth the $140 to make the OEM sound minimally better, NO.

But in my situation, this is just the beginning of a budget build. I wanted the $400 i spend on speakers to matter, so the $140 makes sense in that respect.

The doors close with a thud and the vibrations are gone. The OEM front speakers dont vibrate the door either like before (distortion sounding, not the good sounding kind). Play any Rage Against the Machine track with a decent base line and turn the volume to 35...you will hear distortion and door vibes.

    I don't now.

The temp question, I don't know. I bet its marginal, unless you have a bad ass hot exhaust and treat the floor like 200% deadened.

    Good luck.

Phatmat and deadening won't really help with stock speakers. But if you plan on upgrading later do it as it won't hurt anything and will pay off when you run good speakers and an amp later.

I don't think it will help much with the temp either.
