Hey guys I was thinking about getting a cai for the truck. I have an AEM for my Honda and I love the growl it gives, but aem is not legal in California for the Tacoma. Does anyone know if any of the other brands give that nice throaty growl to it?

I recently put the Volant CAI system in my tacoma and it deffinitely adds the growl that you are looking for. it also offers noticeable gains in pickup as well. ill post a pic

The box that encloses the filter allows it to suck cold air instead of letting the engine heat interfere.... also for even better performance you can disassemble the ram air duct in the passenger side fender, and cutt of the 90 degree angle restriction. after cutting off the restriction assemble the ram air duct back into place. this greatly increases air flow. simple mod that costs nothing at all!!!!!

sry for the misunderstanding, the restriction comes stock on all tacomas. the volant cai has no restrictions whatsoever

The elbow is mounted in the inner fender wall and the pipe from the air box slips into it. On the other side of the fender wall the elbow makes a sharp right turn and joins another tube that continues backward and upward inside the fender. The sharp turn is very restrictive.
It is easy to remove. Remove the air box and unbolt two bolts that hold the elbow to the fender. Then wiggle it out.
I did get a suggestion from one of the visitor to my site. He recommended removing the elbow and then cutting off the part that is inside of the fender and then reinstalling the remaining part to maintain the seal with the fender wall.

heya, thanks for the replies, does the volant continue on into the fender housing? It looks like on their website it still sucks the air from the fender?

Just wondering does the filter get full of bugs with it being up there or does the grill sufficiently shield it? thanks

The grill does a good job. I've driven in rain and through giant puddles with no problem :)

But if you have an aftermarket grill you might want to invest in the hydro shield or prefilter

The volant system doesnt connect to the fender housing, but there is about a 6'' hole in the box where the fender housing is. so yes most of the air you are getting is from the fender
