    i understand that

    trust me

    ive been there

if i could start over...i wouldve bought the 85 4runner i was offered in 06

with the tacomas...you can mod them and mod them...but youre going to reach a point where youve spent upwards of $10K and you STILL cant do the stuff you want to do

i look at it as i can spend another $10K on my truck and end up with a SAC'ed caged truck

    or

i can spend $5000 and get the same thing...only predented and prebeat up...and then when i break it i can let it sit for as long as i like until i can afford to fix it

    SA 4runner ftw.
my buddy in highschool had one.85 22re 4runner.MC DTC's, detriot in the rear. and re geared. stock suspension on 32's and it was amazing offroad. he sold it before he could lift and get some new meats. i should have snagged it. i think he let it go for 2700 or so.
I would buy an older dedicated trail rig before i BTS out of my daily driven prerunner i am paying on lol

in the end...you'll spend around the same amount of money buying and building a trail rig as you will converting that 05+ tacoma to 4wd i suspect

Theres flooring, its just rust enough to see through holes haha. And by hit some shit, i mean hit some shit, not "hit up" some trails. Then you'll be like "if i hit a tree with my truck, this will happen...If i hit a tree with an old POS jeep (or something old for wheeling) it doesn't matter"

lents...trust me on this...i KNOW the feeling all too well...

when i first started wheeling my truck shortly after i bought it

i was dead set on building it into a capable trail rig...and keeping it as such and then buying a daily driver vehicle...

i had even sat down with my fabricator and planned it all out...down to what type of axles i was going to use and what my cage would look like and everything

and its just not worth it

shortly after that i rode in his buggy (the mangler) and the ability to NOT care about if something breaks or dents or shreds...and the fact that i can build it on my own pace as i can afford...not have to fix stuff right then and there because its my only transportation etc...that sold me

looking at the estimated amount of money that...say...silverback has put into his truck

id bet with a trail rig...he'd have spent half of that and gotten an even more capable truck out of it

granted...his tacoma is super nice...and super capable...but theres a plateau where at some point you have to start spending major gobs of cash whereas the only MAJOR expense in buying an old toyota truck is buying the big ass tires for it and caging it...and if you learn how to weld...caging it can be relatively cheap too

Who you calling stupid? I put an AP bumper on my stock prerunner, and I'm not stupid. Well maybe just a little but check my pics if you're intersted in seeing what it looks like. Just do it, and no, to really answer your question, it's NOT stupid!!!

besides, i doubt you'll find trails hard core enough to need armor in auburn. IF there are any, they've already been found and destroyed. trust me, i've tried them all out on my dirtbike and fallen in several 3 ft deep ruts.
