I have the jbl package in my 2020 tacoma and I installed aftermarket amp and sub. The sub is cutting out either when I turn the volume up and when I turn the bass up. If anyone has any ways to fix this I’d love your input. I’m by no means a car audio professional so if you could dumb it down a bit that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Sub could be blown and its separating at high volume. Any rattling before it cuts out?

I'll bet the amp is pulling too much power and cutting out. Had that happen with an old JBL GTO amp in my Saturn SC2 with a 100 amp alternator or something small. The amp was pulling too many amps and cutting out.

Quick and dirty way to find out, what's the total amount of all of the fuses in the amp added up?

Can I fix this by getting higher volume fuses?

Did it just start doing it recently how long have you had the sub installed ? How is it installed ? Might want to try to adjust the gain on the amplifier .

If fuses are not blowing then running a bigger fuse does nothing except run the risk of damaging amp. Might just be exceeding the nominal output of amp. Look and see if safety light comes on the amp.

Only if you wanna risk blowing the amp and doing damage to the electrical system of the truck.

I don't know how many amps the stock JBL system is but let's say between 30-60. So 45, plus the 60 from yours is 105 on a truck with a 135 amp alternator.

I'd start checking for voltage drop at low volumes and turning it up and seeing how it does and looking for idle drop or light dimming.

Also you'd be better off in a car audio forum as this isn't a Tacoma specific issue. You'll get more/better help I'd imagine.

Chances are the amp is going into protection mode due to over heating or over current. Check what ohm rating the subwoofer is rated at and compare it to what the amp can handle. Also keep in mind if its a 2 channel amp, and you have it bridged, then the load rating will be different than whats listed for 2 channel operation.

a 2 channel amp thats rated at 2 ohms is usually only rated for 4 ohms when bridged.

Tell us what your using and we can better tell you how to set it up. What we need -
    Amp model number
    Sub model number
gauge wire you have running from the battery.
