How is the stereo sound system in the 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport 4WD V6? I bought the Tech pkg? Does it have 4 or 6 speakers? Stereo Upgrade recommendations, if needed? I should have my truck in a week! :)

It's decent but lacks base and distorts on bass heavy music. I'm far from an audiophile and still felt the need to upgrade. - however I say it's decent because it's still better than a friend of mines stock Bose system in his 2016 Canyon.

I'm going with the OEM audio plus system, it's scheduled to be delivered Wednesday and I hope to install it Thursday. It's pricey but it's plug and play so it's what I wanted. I'm sure you could get as good or better sounding system for the money if you know what you are doing and/or want to replace the stock head unit.

Did you get the jbl option or just the tech package?

Oh and to answer the other question. There are 6 speakers - 2 on the top of the dash and one in each door.

The jbl has the sub though too in the dc. I can't speak for the ax model.

Just the tech pkg since it wasn't available on the Access Cab. Only Double Cab.

I have a Pioneer 5100NEX head unit, kenwood excelon door speakers and amp, and 2 kicker 10s and a kicker amp for them. Cant stress enough how awesome this setup is in the tacoma. The head unit is overkill but I liked having the navigation screen right there on the dash

Factory system is pretty standard quality for Toyota. It makes sound. Nothing to write home about, but there are worst factory systems. If you're into car audio then the JBL will also be kind of meh to you.

I went JL c5s in mine with a stealthbox behind the rear. Sounds great, but I don't know if I would do it all over again. The factory set up was not terrible.

Just bought the 2016 TRD sport. Has six speakers. Sadly lacking in the sound department. I was told that the tech package did not come with the jbl sound only the limited package had that option. I am looking to upgrade the sound as well. An 8 inch sub, amp and enclosure are going to run around $1200 cdn. Is that too pricey.

I agree. The base audio system is really lagging and needs an upgrade. I just invested in a plug n play system from OEM Audio+. It takes two weeks to manufacture and ship out, so I'm anxiously waiting to receive mine. It's getting great reviews

I've been pretty impressed with the jbl in my truck. The sub puts out good bass for being an 8 inch sub.

The jbl package is an add on to the tech package. I'm pretty sure it was an $800 add on to the tech package.

Wanted to upgrade my sound package at the Toyota dealership. So I went to the parts department and asked. I was told they didn't stock the equipment. Guess it all depends on the dealership.

It's an option you needed to have added when they built the truck. Kind of like the oem tonneau cover

How does the OEM Audio Plus sound compared to the JBL?

If you think the standard stereo on the Tacoma sounds better than the Bose on the Canyon then you should save your money and keep what you have.
