Sourcing brake hardlines

    Hi all,
    During what should have been a quick Replacement of the stock rubber hoses with upgraded hoses, I found that the hardline fitting on the passenger side was malformed. I couldn’t get it to mate up with the new rubber hose, so I went and bought a Napa version and it wouldn’t mate up with that one either. I ended up taking the whole section of hardline out and the fittting on the other end will mate up with both the upgraded line and the Napa line, so I know it’s just the one fitting that is not right, but I spent all afternoon trying and could not get the threads seated and mating up with the new flexible line.
    I couldn’t find a part number for this from camelback Toyota, and I really don’t want to have to learn about bending and flaring my own hard lines just for this one job, so I wondered if anyone else had any idea on sourcing these sections of line?

    Such a shit feeling when a 30 minute job turns into a three day ordeal!

    Try Classic Tube or Inline Tube.

    Whats happen is common with fuel lines......
    you've gotten tube crooked/bent at the end.....so when you go to seat.....its not seating and setting square on other end....

    Best is to try to straighten up that end so that it mates perfectly square....
    I use a little steel rod in end and very carefully staighten.....

    Another hale marry move I've found is use these special ac saver gaskets for use on old leaking automotive double flares that have been messed with...does not hurt to keep couple sizes around of em around.....order from autozone....

    Reason this happens .....you sometimes have to take the whole hose/line off at other end for you to be able line it up to seat the tough end without crooking it....or at least loosen it up.....then reattach other end last......

    That’s what I was thinking too, I took the whole piece off and still couldn’t get the damn thing seated. Im not sure what the AC saver gaskets would do? I will try anything though

    Don't take this as a personal attack, but your the 1 who screwed this up (no pun intended).

    It's your responsibility to fix it right. Consider the safety of other people before you start installing air cond parts on your brake system.

    Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    Some how that last picture shows a deformed flare nut that first thread is damaged it will never start..

    Lets hope the female threads have not been damaged as well.

    Our flare nuts are M10x1.0 thread .

    Try again with a new hard line get a piece long enough to bend as needed it does not need to be a perfect match. as long as it works.

    Again I'm telling you....I've fixed/repair bushings......just like that....

    On old equipment you cant waltz down to the Otasco store and buy some part from 60yrs ago....have to fix what you got.

    I'm tell'n you......straighten that last half inch on the tube.....so it isnt crooked as that bushing takes forever to tighten down....

    Some of those bushings that first thread is jacked........have to take a needle file to it and make it more gentle....

    It has to go in perfectly square.....it you jump on that first half twist.....your crooked.....further tightening wont uncrook....

    have to shave a little of the first thread on that bushing .....so it mates without it readily cross threading .........and clamping down with the nipple seating off center.....

    Filing that takes some time and patience......its hard steel.....

    I dunno if this helps you out too much, but where I live automotive parts stores will bend tubing perfectly to your needs, flared and all with the correct flare nuts on if you give them the right information. All things considered, it's not difficult to bend brake tubing to the right shape but if you don't have a lot of experience doing so, try your local parts stores.

    I've never considered buying an OEM pre-bent steel brake line. Pre-formed hoses however... that's an easy answer. :D

    I might have that exact piece new if you still need it I could send it to you. I ordered one then ended up having to bend a custom piece instead so I didn't use it.

    well out my way the parts stores are not so well run. I went to four of them to find brake line, none of them sold or rented tube benders, and one of them the girl up front didn’t even know what a hard brake line was.. finally found some pre-sized brake line the had the flare and the fitting already on it and was able to do enough of a bending job to get it to fit, but I think I’ll try to find the oem piece just for peace of mind. I’d rather not have any doubts about the damn brakes.
