I took the MAT because it was easier and allowed in my program. Some of that math and such was sketchy to me years ago! Good luck!

Thanks! That’s what I am wondering about. I think there’s one other I have an option but can’t remember the name of the test.

I did a Master's in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Law Enforcement. funny. I never went into that field and I now own a carpet cleaning and restoration biz! The whole MAT and grad school thing was on a whim because a friend did not want to take the MAT alone. I am a glutton for punishment?

All education is good education!!! It's unfortunate that primary education in this country is so poor. We could change the planet with/through education!!

This is the reason we virtual school our son. So in addition to running ragged with owning a business, I do that too! But, it allows me to teach him several methods for math and other courses. And I can enhance the learning with additional videos as the stuff is covered. Also, I suspect because he was slow to learn to read, they would have left him behind and put him into slower classes. He is now way ahead of the others in his classes reading level wise. And we are working on the other skills as we need to. I love that all the scores and such are in real time too! I feel bad for his cohorts in some of the traditional schools tho :(

Strong work..just the fact that you are involved in his education puts him ahead. It is truly unfortunate that many, if not perhaps most, patients are not involved in any meaningful way with their children's education. If they were, they would not allow the underfunding of so many schools, poor student scores, less that satisfactory teach performance, etc. Society has no greater responsibility than the teaching of the little people. Sorry sensitive issue for me.

Its hard for the public schools to keep teachers (good or less than good) with the pay scale the way it is. wife works in education, because she truly enjoys it. (god bless her) she sees so much turnover from year to year with the staff.

The interesting thing is seeing how many parents are not involved in the virtual learning and how many then complain that the whole concept sucks. Of course it does, when you are not sitting there encouraging and assisting when needed! I figure the whole internet is how many colleges instruct now. We are used to not using a physical book (even tho we have them) and learning all the things online. It is a different style but I think it will be useful in the future. We do still have teachers and live lessons via webcam and such.

Both of my in-laws worked in education in Michigan, him as a public school teacher and her in administration, both now retired. They made pretty good money at it, but probably only because of the unions...

Its not so much about the form but he effort. You can do a lot of great teaching with just a piece of chalk and a blackboard if it's done with knowledge and passion.

A lot of focus these days is trying to bring the lower kids up to par, and the bright ones just dont get challenged to excel.
