Evening all, sorry to bother you guys but a quick question. I am getting ready for a new truck, in the county I live in up here in NY sales tax is 8.75% that you pay when you buy it. Also thinking of moving to SC and was wondering how that works ? If I pay the tax here when buying will I have to pay tax again if I reg it down there? On a 46,000. dollar truck that would hurt. Thanks for any insight on this. I don't need a new truck right now and could wait till I move but that's an if and when and kinda want a new truck now and found just what I want. Thanks again everyone.

That is one thought I had but I am going down there and check it out and first and look into different areas then still have to come back and closeout things here and start moving my things down there. It could be two or three months and I kinda want a truck now.

Currently 299 sales tax at the dealer. Actual yearly property taxes on something like that would easily be 1k+ depending on where its registered.

If I move there look for me, I will be the one pushing a shopping cart down the road because I won't be able to afford to register any trucks or cars !!!! Does the value depreciate each year and go down ?

    Yup... Every. Fucking. Year.

I moved from California and had already paid my taxes on my vehicles I brought, or so I thought until I registered and titled them here in SC. On a 10 year old Corvette I was paying over $400 a year on taxes...sold that since it sat more in the garage than anything. Brand new 2015 Sienna minivan...almost $500 a year. 2007 FJ...about $350. 2011 Tacoma...$400. Every. Fucking. Year.

Not to mention my insurance DOUBLED compared to California.

Move to SC they said... It'll be cheaper they said... You'll love it there they said... It's not much cheaper, if at all, to live here than Cali...

Did you know there are bugs here that fucking bite you...and the cherry on top is that you CANT EVEN SEE THEM!

The last I recall the sales tax is capped at $300. The yearly property tax is based on value and goes down with depreciation of the vehicle. High mileage also knocks off some, too. If you have older vehicles, they probably won't be much at all.
