I want to add remote start to my truck for this reason, as well. Problem- it's a Standard....

It's not impossible to add remote start to a manual. My buddy had it on his 15 Camaro.

Not a big problem being a manual just have to tap into the clutch switch usually and remember not to leave it in gear and just use the e-brake.

I know, I used to install.

But I would really like to have a logic circuit that can check if the vehicle is in gear before cranking. "Getting in the habit of leaving it in neutral" is not enough for me.

I've done installs before on standard transmissions, but they always were on vehicles that had some sort of provision to "neutral check"- I am considering making my ignition more of a Turbo Timer sort of affair- so it doesn't stop running till, say, 2 minutes after I remove the key or so. This will basically force me to leave it in neutral, parking brake on, when I park.

Of course then the question is, what about when I park on a hill and leave it in gear to assist the brake? Well, first I need to see if I can adjust the parking brake well enough to not have to do that.

"remember not to do X, and to do Y" isn't good enough.

This needs to be idiot proof. I'm going to loan the truck to my son ocassionally, and don't need him causing an insurance claim.

The bigger concern would be if I loaned it to the wife. Luckily, she can't drive stick (write your own jokes).

I'd rather have moist meat than bark, anyway.

Are those coffee grounds used, or dry?

When you loan the truck to your son disable the remote start if he is use to leaving it in gear. If you are use to leaving it in gear then you'll just have to change your habits. Sad thing is this can't be idiot proof nothing is idiot proof that's proven every day.

If these are still available, for that price, I'm interested. I have some BFG ATs that sat for years on this thing before I got it. Slip-slidin-away......

Actually, it can be idiot proofed.

Microswitches are a thing. I just have to see if there is enough room available to fabricate a ring of microswitches for all 6 gears around the shifter. But that involves some teardown and inspection I haven't had time to do yet.

Hard tonneau cover is out for shipment and I am excited because the stock tri fold is leaking like a B**ch (ruining my tools). I really want to mount some racks through to new one. Any How to’s or things to keep in mind are appreciated and wanted. I know it’s probably not recommended by manufacturer but I need it. Only looking to carry light boxes up there. Photo below is something I found online.
