@toysrgood what sort of GIS program do you use at your job? I remember you saying you did some sort of mapping for your job. My boss was looking into finding a system to map out our distribution system.

I use ESRI products. Probably the most expensive but also the most comprehensive software for GIS. They're are alternatives but I've never used anything else.

Look into City Works, they do a lot with the public services type asset management but I am fairly certain it isn't a stand alone solution, it needs to be coupled with a GIS.

You're in water right? I have been looking at expanding into our county's water and sewer department but they're totally inept with technology. I showed them a map and they just scratched their heads. It'll be a long uphill battle for me to integrate with them. Let me know if y'all come up with anything and how it works out.

Appreciate it. I'll look into both of those and see what I can find.

Water is correct. Looking to try and get a better mapping system we can use in house instead of getting engineers to draw it out. We can keep it up to date and more accurate since we know our system and see it everyday. Our office is pretty much stuck in the past but me and a few other guys are attempting to bring it into the 21st century and this is something I've been asking my boss about for over a year now and figured a GIS program would be the best fit for what we want to do.

That's cool. I was looking at aftermarket earlier and geez, they are really proud of those things. Might just try the BHLM.

You're definitely on the right track. Engineers can only get so far if you're talking blueprints. GIS is absolutely the best way to track all your assets and their location. The basic ground work will be time consuming, but once your system is mapped, it opens up a world of possibilities.

I need to pick the brains of all of our county engineers and field workers to find out where all of our water is. They're the only ones who know.

Our county bought up a bunch of private water systems in an attempt to expand the existing county and city system. What a damned nightmare. Some are 60+ years old and no blueprints/maps exist of them. The only ones we have actual blueprints for are new/upcoming projects...

They don't even know who their customers are or where they're systems go to.

I had to look up BHLM ....
We used to do that on xBs. I have a set I was planning to do, but then never did.

They key is to not overbake it.

Or do it drunk. :notsure: I have a terrible habit of starting fun projects on Friday night while tipsy, then fixing the mess the next day. :anonymous:

Anybody have any thoughts or experience with the certificates for replacement or refund from Dis count Tire? Worth it? Ever used one?

I purchased them with my tires and have used it before. Depends on what you do and if you could afford to purchase a tire outright if you have a non repairable puncture. Cashing in on one was seamless no hassle at all.
