I feel like I should post this for others to learn from my mistake. This is directed to new fathers, fathers to be, fathers of younger children.

Yesterday afternoon we were in a rush to get to my daughter's dress rehersal for her dance. She needed to eat dinner before hand since it was going to take a while. We stopped at McDonald's. Well it was taking a while I was getting frustrated since time was dwindling for us to get across town. Well while I was at the 1st window to pay one of the employees mother decided it was too much of an inconvenience to park and walk in or have the employee walk out to get something. So she cut right in front of me to hand it to the person in the second window as well as have a 5 min conversation with the person. This made my frustration even higher. I told the woman manager at the second window it was Bull Shit what that person did and that next time they need to get their lazy ass out of the car and walk it in or have the person walk out to the car to get it and it was Very unprofessional. Needless to say my daughter obviously heard that and she knew I was upset. To add insult to injury instead of getting chicken nuggets in her happy meal she got 3 plain burger patties. So that added to my pissed off level even more. Well we ended up getting beside that person on the road. In my frustration and anger I blasted the horn and gave that woman the one finger salute. Of course my daughter saw that.

I will hand it to my daughter she knew I was upset and not happy so she staid calm and very well manured and asked if I would share my chicken nuggets I obliged because she needed to eat more than I. She also was extremely well behaved and wanted to try and calm me down which was a big help.

Now this morning on the way to school she asked me why I fussed at the person at the window and why I honked and stuck my middle finger up at the person that cut in line. (her exact words). I decided to not make any excuses as to why it was ok to do what I did. I owned up to it and told her that daddy lost his temper and it wasn't nice and she doesn't need to do what I did. Of course my heart sank a little bit because as a father I want to raise her to be better than I am.

Moral of the story your kid sees, feeds, and learns off of everything that you do. Try and keep a cool head in their presence and don't be ashamed or too big to own up to them when you screw up. Make it a learning experience for them as to your mistakes.

There has been a lot of talk lately about parenthood/fatherhood for those that are new to the game just thought I would share as a little bit of a wake up call that you will make mistakes it's what you do with them that will help shape your child as an adult.

Long story short, you acted human, kid noticed, you had to explain your shit, maybe kid learns, but maybe not. At least now she knows how to flip off asshole drivers. I count that as a win.

I totally agree. It's hard to be the person you should be than it is to be the person you are sometimes. I think the big message is as a father or parental influence own up to your mistakes and ask for forgiveness even to your child. I believe it teaches them and models what we want them to become. Children Aren't just watching what we do wrong but how we fix and solve situations.

Owning up to your mistakes is a great lesson to teach. No better way than being humble and admitting you were wrong. Least you didn't cuss out an old lady and make your kids cry in Walmart. Lol, she yelled at them so deserved it but still.
