I wouldn't worry too much unless one is allergic to bees or something. We've had scouts get bitten on numerous occasions. It happens. When mom got bit she freaked out a bit and wanted to go to the ER. They didn't do anything which is what I told her.

I had voles tear up my yard the dog would listen and pounce where she thought she heard them and dig a big hole trying to get them. She sucked and never caught one but succeeded in pot holing my yard

We fought a “damned squirrel” for a couple years that did several K of damage to the eaves. Plus, had copperheads living in the next yard over.

A feral cat & a huge black snake later, both problems solved!
This year has been GREAT for that!!!

    I’m feeling proud of myself.
My stupid joke on a Clemson facebook page has been popular. I’ve made many laugh today: Clemson fans who said/prayed/proclaimed:
    “Unleash hell on South Carolina”
    Should have been more specific.

Yeah we have them around us. They get real pissed when you pick them up.

Only Venomous snakes we have around here are rattle snakes and copperheads. Out in west TN they have water Moccasins. We just have a common water snake around here.( that a lot of people think and say is a cotton mouth)

Yeah we have several different water snakes around here. The Northern Water Snake can look almost exactly like a Cottonmouth in some color phases. They are also mean SOBs. A lot of people just see snakes and assume it's venomous and kill them and know nothing about them. It's kinda sad.

Yeah. My dad is retired wildlife officer. (Pretty much same as DNR for you guys.) people say we have all kinds of shit that the wildlife officers can’t prove. Like black panthers cotton mouths.(like I said west and maybe middle(Nashville) have them but not east TN.

Pretty much the line for east TN is around windrock. West of that to the other side of Nashville is middle TN.

Had this guys watching me shooting my bow a few mins ago. Prolly 4 ft long. Pretty sure it’s a typical black snake. I let him go on his way. With all those frogs and 3 copperheads I killed I wanted to keep as many black snakes around as possible. They ain’t gunna hurt ya like you guys said. Hate snakes but if ya leave em be they shouldn’t be a problem.

My mom HATES snakes. She things the only good one is a dead one. I try and tell her they are staying real close to the house with indoor/outdoor dogs. Also what’s worse having a snake around or mice/maybe rat problems, moles in the yard?

I told the wife the same thing. We are doing all this land scraping, cutting down trees, cleaning out the ditch. It’s gunna disturb em. This guy was 100 yards behind my house near my archery range. I made a bunch of brush piles for rabbits and other critters, assuming some snakes have moved in which is fine. As long as they ain’t poisonous I’m good. Don’t like copperheads or rattle snakes.

Yeah that's a black rat snake. Even if you'd of tried to pick him up he would of tried to run then musked you. Which is always a lovely smell. I usually catch one camping with the scouts and use it as a good teaching moment. After about 5 min or so they usually calm down and just chill coiled around your arm hanging out.

I always heard black snakes were good to have around. Like I said I worded it incorrectly earlier, only killed the copperheads and killed a couple garder snakes with the pitch form picking up the pine straw on accident. If I saw em I just moved em to the ditch. Now this week I’m clearing the ditch so I’m figuring I will run into a pile of snakes haha.

I actually bought a pair of gator guards for bowhunting down here. Try to really use caution and watch where I walk when I’m scouting and hunting but there are so many freaking cane brake rattlers in that national forest people wouldn’t believe it. I will take some pics this fall. Like you mentioned a bunch of water snakes but there are cotton mouth all along lake russel and those creek bottoms. I’m used to the water snakes up north but didn’t have to deal with cotton mouths.

Was crossing a creek last fall, marsh type area. Started walking the bank and saw a snake laid out by a log, thought it was thick water snake. It curled up and opened its mouth super wide and just sat there. Then I realized” you dip shit, that’s why they call them cotton mouths” once of the thickest, fattest snakes I’ve ever seen. Wasn’t aggressive just sat with it’s mouth open super wide. I was outta there in a second haha.
