That’s the issue I find so interesting. Officially, they don’t exist any more, though most locals tell you they do. I’ve been told “we don’t have those” (by local law enforcement), rephrased the question, then took part in a long conversation (joined by others) to the opposite. The cop who said “we don’t have those” told me of seeing one while hunting, that he got within a few feet of & only realized after hee passed it, then turned around & saw leaving.

I’m really curious as to what people are seeing, what I saw, etc. If the Eastern Cougar died out, where are these from?
    Florida? Out west?
Did it not die out, but became VERY good at hiding? (My suspicion, based on stories I’ve heard first hand.) There are large enough unpopulated & near inaccessible areas in the Smokies/Blue Ridge area for them to vanish into the trees & not be seen for a decade or few.

Are those mixing with what has been there?
Are they all actually the same animal (genetically)?

I have both and I think the OT keeps ice a little better. In retrospect i wish i would have spent that money on a good Tundra 65 or similar, though.

Killed two of those bastards in my yard a few weeks back. Sniped then from the upstairs bedroom window with my silenced 22 rifle.

Boom, headshot - no spray, life was good.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
I'm fairly certain I saw one while hunting near Santee a few years back. Came out of the woods further down the dirt road I was walking, looked back, kept on going. WAY bigger than any housecat/bobcat and had the typical coloring of a cougar.

I 110% agree. I've had friends who know how to identify spot them in NC and send photos of the paw prints to NC wildlife. Their reply is they don't exist.

My parents proved along with a study from a big University that a migratory bird which NC believed to not come around anymore still does. This was after they were told to pound sand by NC wildlife. I was a part of private studies to show the timber/canbrake rattlesnake actually has a bigger stretch than previously though by the state. Same goes for some of our water turtles they also deny live in certain areas yet I find them all the time have sent photos and even caught them and invited officers to come and see for themselves.

Hate to say it but I think there are some other political factors at hand.

Love my RTIC 45.. it did awesome on my trip last week. Pre-icing and using the Rtic or Yeti ice blocks helps retain ice a lot too.
