Ken, have you considered having a vet come to your house to do it? That way she is in a place she knows and surrounded by those who love her when she checks out.

Good point. I’d pay extra just to have that closure. Especially if Kids that are old enough are involved.

Yes we considered that. The gf just didn't want to do that. Her boss even offered to pay for that as it's about $300. But in her mind that would create that new memory. She wants to remember the way she was.

A customer told me about this group of vets who do at home euthanasia. Called Laps of Love. Think I will use them in the future when it’s time to say goodbye to any of my pups. I hated taking my corgi to the vet when it was his time. I wish I had done it at home.

I’m gonna be pretty torn about it. Mine associates Truck rides with good times. Can’t lie to my best friend. Gonna be a hard bridge to cross.

My coworkers wife is a vet and that's all she does...she normally does 4-5 a day...brings home BANK doing it too.

I'll def go that route when it's time. No way I'll be in a state of mind good enough to drive home after the fact.

never an easy thing to do.. mine is only 2 years old and if I had to put her down I would be a fucking wreck. Nothing like a pupper man, they really touch you in a special way

When I took my Husky mix a few years ago, he loved riding in the truck, I made a bed in the back of the 4Runner, laid him in there and carried him to the vet, he wasn’t “there” mentally but you could tell he wasn’t in pain and enjoying the ride. He held his head up and smelled the air as it came thru. He knew it was time. (14.5 yrs old).
Waiting in the parking lot was the toughest part, but they came out, shaved his leg and performed the euthanasia. No pain, no noise, just wafted off to sleep, he was gone. I took him back home wrapped him in his favorite blanket with his favorite toy and buried him next to his buddy that passed a few years earlier. I say hi to both of them every time I mow.

I feel for you man, I just went through this in December with our dachshund, she was a week from turning 13 and we’d had her since she was 4 months old. Liver and spleen cancer.

Remembering all those good memories you had with them helps, but it’s damn tough. Prayers for you dude.
