    For real...

I was googling something the other day and you know those little 'similar questions' that popup in the search results?

Is Sumter SC a good place to live? "For a town its size, Sumter has many positive attributes: great parks, wonderful neighborhoods, and a revitalized downtown with top-notch restaurants and places for people to gather for drinks and socializing."
Is .. a good place to retire? "Sumter is a top retirement destination by the magazine 'Where to Retire'"

oh... ok... have you actually visited before you wrote those hilarious articles? :der:

We did that previously. No charge to remove trees and they got a truck load of logs.

I was stationed at Shaw for about 3 years. Unfortunately Shaw stands for Stay Here A While. Once you're there, it's hard to get sent anywhere else. It also felt like the civilian population didn't like the military members in that town. Which is strange because they are a big part of the local economy.

I was at work yesterday talking to a customer who was retired AF. I mentioned that when I first stationed at Shaw I was part of the 726th Air Control Squadron. But shortly after, they moved back to Mountain Home and I was moved to 20th Comm at Shaw. He was like, it's a great thing you didn't go with the 726th because there is NOTHING at Mountain Home. Apparently it's worse that Scumter.

Every military town I ever experienced seemed like it had at least a little resentment towards us, especially the local women :anonymous:

I never worked at Shaw. I was an Active Duty "Associate" stationed at McEntire JNGB. In every way I was part of McEntire's 169th FW but was also apart of the 20th MXG. It was weird.

I am also out in the country now. Way on the other end of town.

The other day I had a C-17 fly over so low the landing lights lit up my yard. It was super foggy so they must have had them on for approach 20 miles out.

    For sure!

“Hey son, hold this tire here for a sec and don’t let it roll down the hill…”

“Dad when can we drive your monster truck?”
