Anyone ever torn off the timing cover on a 2.7? How much does it suck? Building my Rockauto list of "while I'm in here" parts while replacing those cover gaskets.

Oh I have to do some research on a balance shaft delete never heard of it. What does it get you? From how the rest of the engine is to work on I really don't think it'll be too much of a dog to get in to. The biggest thing is trying to figure out what else to do while I'm there.

So far thinking of the following: timing chain/guide, water pump, oil pump maybe?, balancer, whatever gaskets/seals I can find

Wahl lemme tell ya 'bout it **packs copenhagen**

What I know is the 3RZ has two counter-weighted shafts that spin on either side of the bottom end of the engine. They're driven by a smaller chain behind the timing chain. The purpose is to reduce engine vibration inherent in an I4 engine. However, at high mileage, the shaft bearings tend to get worn and they begin to be less effective toward their intended purpose. Therefore, removing them will likely result in a negligible increase in engine vibration because they likely aren't reducing vibration anymore anyway. Why remove them? The first reason was just stated, they're possibly useless at high mileage. The second reason is: because they're useless, removing the unnecessary weight may conserve a few HP.

From what I've seen, removing them is pretty easy if you've already got the timing cover off to do other work. Search youtube for 3RZ balance shaft delete. Some australian guy made a good video of him doing it full DIY. LCE sells a balance shaft delete kit for $99 to make it a bit more convenient. You can do it without the kit though if you do it like the guy in the video. Either way, watching that video will make the kit all the more easier to install bc you better understand what's happening.

I'm getting around to deleting all the unneccessary things on my truck to include: both cats, EGR, ABS, and balance shafts.

I might need a hand putting this transmission back in on Saturday. Anyone in the Aiken/Augusta area able to stop by NA to lend a hand?

If anyone in the Charleston area needs some car/truck work done let me know! Have a buddy that does excellent work for cheap. Helped me out with the suspension overhaul and a few other things as I've been learning this truck.

Anyone know of some good places around Charleston (maybe near Cottageville or so) to get some fun trail driving in? Want to test all this stuff out
