Dang! I have no clue how my old unit is keeping up. Original windows from 1986 and it has no problem keeping the house at 72. Now that I said that… it will more surely die.
My electric bill is insanely high :annoyed:

Bought a used homelink rearview mirror for my taco. I feel fancy now. No more garage remotes on my visor.

I could never get mine to pair to my garage door opener.

Doesn't matter now, since I don't have a garage anymore.

My garage door opener uses rolling codes... Its always hard to get car to pair with it. Took me a couple tries but I got it. Me electric gate isn't a rolling code and I easily did that one first try.

I have all new windows and new ductwork. According to the neighbor, the unit was installed shortly before I moved in....15 years ago. It's too big for the house. Just got my electric bill, which doesn't include this heat wave. $370!!!!! 900 more KWh than the same period last year. I was outside fixing some gutters when I got home yesterday. Pouring sweat, I walk into a 78 degree house. I snapped, said fug it and went to Lowes. :D

Pretty much all garage doors over the last 20 years use rolling codes. Generally speaking, on garage openers older than about 8 years, it's a 2 step process. You program the remote to the mirror first, then press the learn button on the motor, come back to the car and press the mirror button a few times. On newer openers, you can generally just program the garage remote to the mirror and have it work. Genies are weird. Liftmasters are super easy.

Yeah I had to program the remote to the mirror, then the mirror to the genie opener

Picked a hot one to be plasma cutting under the truck in full FR clothing. Don't think being in the shade helps at all at this point :bananadead:

sounds like the unit is either undersized or your house is not well insulated.

The unit is actually oversized which is bad too. And the house is definitely not insulated well. It was built in 1957. I need to get some more blown into the attic.

my old house was built in 1948 and had shit insulation in the walls but in the attic it had over 20” of blown in cellulose. It was very effective.

An oversized system should still adequately cool the home it will just short cycle the compressor and you may not see adequate humidity removal.

in our current home the thermostat was right near a vent and a return, so it was situated where there is a bit of turbulence in the airflow. It was short cycling the compressor due to that.

I had to order wireless temp sensors for various parts of the house and use those as an average, and now the tstat is only used to control what temp I want the average of the sensors to be.

Definitely going to look into getting extra attic insulation. Once in 15 years, this unit couldn't keep up. And even then it was staying around 73 when we normally set it for 67-68. The unit is 3.5 ton and the house is 1500sqft. So a little much.

oh yeah you probably need no more than a 2 ton. Hell you might be able to get away with a mini split once you get the insulation situated.

The thermostat at our old house was right where the sun hit a wall for hours in the mid afternoon making it run non stop all day. Had to relocate that damn thing. Made a huge difference.

Isn’t it crazy how thermostats can be mounted in those locations. Mine was right above the only air return in the house and next to the biggest vent. Relocated it to a better spot and the AC unit is much happier.
