Had a blast at Hatteras this weekend. We fished ramp 44 Friday afternoon. Then hit the beach behind the campground. You can walk out there but can't drive. Fished from 9-1030 that night. Hooked into 4 sharks. The first one stripped out about 50-60 yards off my tld 15 right off the start set at about 10lb of drag. I was using a mono leader and he cut it within the first minute or so of fighting. So I switched over to a 100lb wire leader using some 9/0 circles. Second hit and landed was about a three footer. Then my buddy's rod went off but never got the hook set. The fourth was this 4 footer. Saturday we fished in the morning to midday at the same beach. We caught two small sharks, a bluefish, a croaker and a stingray. This was the biggest ray I ever caught. It was about a three foot wing span. The tld 5 handled him with no problem. Ended up breaking him off at the wash because we didn't want to mess with him.

We got caught in the depression Saturday evening, night and morning. Our camp didn't fair so well. Ended up sleeping in the truck. Which actually wasn't terrible.

Edit: @DrummyTaco got some weights from whalebone tackle and asked if I could throw the net behind the shop. They said "sure, you probably won't catch anything". I caught close to 40 shrimp in maybe 5 good throws and 15 bad ones. As we were leaving a guy who worked there and he's son started throwing cast nets too! ha!

Wouldn't catch me on it anywhere else besides a farm pond. The aerodynamics have to be terrible driving down the road with it too.

Considering joining a boat club...in research phase now. Really don't want the hassle of owning a boat, just the enjoyment of it.

Do you need a boat to join a boat club?

Not for the ones I’m looking at (Freedom Boat Club and Carefree Boat Club). They’re alternatives to boat ownership. I’ve owned boats in the past and really hate all the work that comes with it after a long day on the water. With these, you reserve whatever kind of boat you want/need, go to marina, jump in and go, pull up afterwards and walk away.

“Unlimited” use after an initiation fee and monthly dues...only additional expense is the fuel you use.

$4-6k onetime initiation fee and $3-400 monthly...depending on which club.

I got back not long ago from talking to the Freedom rep and I’m leaning that way over Carefree.

    It’s a nationwide business...so they’re not personal boats.

That's a pretty cool set up though @dan0mite. And yes the nationwide aspect does make more sense! I was picturing the yacht club from Caddy Shack.

It's been a busy couple of weeks at work but I'm going to try and make some calls about the offshore trip tomorrow.

Are we shooting for the 11th?
I'm supposed to be leaving that day but I can push it back to the 12th, or just leave when we get back.

Welp...I just got back from signing up w/ Carefree Boat Club of Charleston. Let me know if/when any of you guys come down here and want to get on a boat. Only cost for me other than dues will be fuel and I'm all about maximizing my return on this membership.

You already know you're welcome anytime. They have deck boats, bay boats, dual consoles, center consoles, and even a sailboat.

There's a nice looking center console that would be great for fishing a few miles off the coast...
