I probably will take you up on that. I need to order the union and what about a filter?

Also I think it will take a while for the bumpers to get in and then I gotta pay to have them powder coated and installed so I think it might be past the 20th before they're on and I get a snorkel... So moving the date back would be better for that and the fact that it'll be drier.

Depending on where you install it, you don't need a filter. There is a two way breather similar to what is on the trans and front diff that you can use. Think that's what I'm going to do. The filter route sounds good, but it's big, bulky, and what if it gets damaged in the storage bin? The other breathers work fine in the engine bay so why wouldn't they be more than adequate in the storage bay?

The filter mounts under the bed, the vent is in the storage box. This type install will serve as a better than in the fuel door location for protection, and the filter will obviously filter and allow 2 way venting but is also a good water trap.

The hole for the vent hose is already drilled in the storage box. I don't recall if I stepped the hole one size during the install.

just got my breather and union yesturday.
im going to do the storage bin route. So im getting confused with the front
    differential and the transfer case.

These already have the breather routed upward?

I think so on the 2nd gens. You should see then under the good in the engine bay, I believe.

I don't know where but the front breathers are under the hood. Storage bin is a good place. I took the idea from pmk when I saw his.

Been working midnights lately...just woke up, lol. My only issue is that I always somehow have dirt and water int he storage bins. If I have that small filter, I'd worry about it getting wet in the storage bin. The little breather union would provide better protection against small amounts of splash water, wouldn't it?

    Hello all,

After setting the front 5100's @ 2.5 on my PreRunner these are the specs:

    Ground to base of fender,
    LF 38.00 / RF 38.00
    LR 40.00 / RR 40.00

    Hub to fender,
    LF 23.00 / RF 23.00
    LR 24.75 / RR 24.75

I had to put shock extenders on the rear because the 5100's were almost at their max height & rode very uncomfortable. I plan to buy extended length 5100's or OME rear shocks soon. Not sure which brand I will go with.

I have another set of FJ wheels that I had re-clear coated & put away for now. I plan to install 275/70r17's BFG A/T's on those once I sell the ones on my truck now with the 285/70r17 GY M/T with Kevlar.

This pic is the alignment done at 5 Star Frame & Alignment in Aventura, Fl. Alignments are their specialty & no more of \ / with my front tires.

Yes, second gens have the breathers routed to under the hood already. They are above the level of the alternator, which is really all you can ask for...if you get the alternator wet, you have other problems anyways...

FWIW, picture a short length of hose run entering the bottom forward or aft corner of the box, it extends vertically to the top of the box as a hose only.

On the lower side of the box, under the bed, I have a clear fuel filter laying horizontal. This will flow in both directions, filtering dust and acting as a small water trap.

I have no oem Toyota parts in the vent system. 90 degree 1/8 NPT elbow, with a straight 1/4 barb fitting into the elbow. Hose, filter and tywraps. I have one union, 1/4 barb type. This is where the hose from under the bed joins the hose inside the box.

Do what you see as best, nothing proves one method better.

    Thanks Dan.

BTW, Just an FYI. I'm very happy with my diff vent by the gas cap. This is one of the first mods that I did. After this mod I drove to the 41st location in Miami (it is now closed off by FPL) where you may or may not have seen a vid of me going through it. I would sometimes stop in the middle to just look around and get a feeling as if I were in a boat. This area looked like a lake & the water reached the bottom of my steps on many occasions. Almost a year later I took out my diff & dropped in an OEM LSD diff. Point is that the fluid that came out had absolutely no water in it. It actually looked much better than I expected.

Like PK said "Do what you see as best, nothing proves one method better."

I can just speak for my experience and I am happy with it.
