I Recently upgraded my brakes to Stoptech discs at all four corners. I stopped by a local Toyota dealer for a brake bleed and the advisor and shop mechanic basically looked at me like I had a third head. They didn’t understand why I would want a dealer break bleed, and basically didn’t want to touch the car.

If anyone knows of a good shop in the South Florida area (Dade, Broward or Palm Beach County) that can perform a techstream break bleed, I would appreciate the recommendation.

    Thanks!

The ORs / Pros do not need TS since your ABS unit is integrated in the electrically boosted master cylinder. With two folks:

-- Go Ignition On. Two PTS presses without your foot on the brake.
-- Put a bit of pressure on the brake pedal. Just enough to hear the electric booster activate.
    -- Crack the bleeder.

You could probably do it with one person, but monitoring the flow is always a good thing, esp as it will just pump continuously.

Haha! That is for our vacuum boosted Tacos.

The ORs / Pros got the Easy Button on this one, almost literally.

Thanks for all the quick responses, The reason I thought I needed the techstream is because another member mentioned it was a night and day difference for their TRD pro after a break upgrade. Maybe it was just a placebo? Brakes work well, just a bit spongier than I’d like. Maybe I just need to give them another bleed to get to optimum break pressure.

I assumed OP @fishhead90 is talking about bleeding the ABS module?

That should only need to be done if the reservoir was run dry though.

I could definitely do that, I’m in that area from time to time.

Fair enough, I’ll check on the reservoir level shortly. When I was bedding the brakes, it seemed as though the ABS was kicking in prematurely. I thought the techstream might help with that also, but I appreciate that clarification.

The OR / Pro ABS unit is integrated in the the electrically boosted master. I believe (could be wrong) that the whole system bleeds at once.

Interesting. I tried looking in the SM, but I didn't see a breakout between the two systems for bleeding. Everything that I saw, looking quickly, was for bleeding the vacuum type.

I think if you now have discs in the rear too, then the brake pedal will always be spongier since calipers take more fluid to move the pistons than drum brakes.

Any decent scan tool with bi-directional controls has this function; you don't need TechStream to do it. You can also bleed the ABS module through activation. Three-four good skids on a loose gravel road and a conventional bleed after that. Do you actually need an ABS bleed though? Do you have a soft pedal after a good, conventional bleed?

Check out https://eurojap.com/ They have a good reputation and state they have factory scan tools for Toyota. You can give them a call and see if they can help you before you make the trip up.
