    I already have the magnaflow catback; but with the long tubes and catless y-pipe it’s gonna be rowdy. I’m likely going to need to put a resonator and Helmholtz tube on the exhaust to get it under control

    bling bling. Gonna be crawling so slow in double lo in the Starbucks drive thru line.

    It had to come back out last night due to some weird shifting issues. All sorted out now; he just had to make some minor tweaks and grind some shit on the transmission tail.

    Southeastwest GX broverlander working on installing the JW tire carrier. It’s a helluva lot easier without a steel bumper getting in the way of half of their hardware. With a toddler at home I’ve only got ~2 hours per day to work on this. No pics but tonight was night 2 and their strike plate along the bottom of the hatch door DOES NOT fit aftermarket bumpers without a lot of grinding to enlarge bolt holes & bending steel plate.

    I don’t have it done yet but I like that JW uses a gusseted & “swan neck” strike plate on the bottom, the Bison strike plate looks pretty minimal. It’s upside down in this pic but you can see the bends it has in it to make a “ramp” up as the door swings shut.

    IMG_7652.jpg

    If you have a stock bumper either product will be a lot easier to install. I spent about 3 hours last night modifying the bottom piece to work with my DV8 bumper. Ended up elongating the holes about 3/8” and then had to put the plate behind the tire mount instead of on top due to the bends in the steel no longer lining up. Ended up not even using the strike plate because I don’t want to plasma torch the whole center of my bumper to make a slot for it to sit in. As it is I was able to get the gap to almost 0 when the door is closed, so the bottom plate will rest on the bumper once the weight of the tire is on there.

    IMG_7653.jpg

    The JW doesn’t come with install instructions, the website has a PDF with tiny pictures. Bison has a great install video, JW can be found on YouTube by customers doing their own install videos. They don’t cover how to remove/relocate the reverse camera or how to mount the camera & plate hardware. JW doesn’t come with threadlocker, drill bits or body paint to seal the raw steel like Bison does. I like that Bison uses easier measurements using standard masking tape as a guide. The Bison inner bracing looks more stout than JW.

    I’d give the nod to Bison when you consider all this and then see the price is almost $400 less. I’m assuming the Bison comes already powdercoated but they don’t call it out. I personally went with JW because they’re only a few miles down the road from me & have been great to work with on my roof rack.

    Final resting place...it wasn't straightforward install, as with any custom job, but it went a hell of a lot smoother than the tundra rack ordeal.

    @SearArtist and others

    Anyone know if the wheel bearing and hub assemblies are side specific? Ordered some new koyos and the boxes don't have part numbers. The Lexus part numbers show a distinction between the sides. I got two that have "LFT" stamped into them. Did I get two left hub assemblies?

    Extending the reverse camera wiring was NOT fun, especially in our tropical storm heat & humidity today. It’s almost done, hopefully I’ll have the plate light wired up tomorrow.

    Not sure what alien technology went into the license plate light circuit but I had to redo it because it didn’t work with the additional light wired to it. Unplug the parallel circuit and it worked. Unplug the OEM light and the parallel circuit worked. But together? Absofuckinlutely not. But I tapped into a different wire upstream in the hatch door harness and got er done around 2330 while my toddler slept.

    Also learned that the glass won’t open if the door is open. Strange choice by Toyota but OK.
