Who is the salesman? I went there before and they said they weren't budging from MSRP. Only reason I want to go there is because they have a deal where you can trade in a beater and you get 3k.

They all come with 50 state emissions. Basically they make it legal for California and it passes every other state

Smogged, no. Registered, possibly. Live in San Diego and bought a truck in Phoenix a few years ago with no problems. You have to get it smogged, inspected, get a weight cert and plan on doing a lot of smiling at the dmv - no problem. BUT, bought a '15 Tacoma in Phoenix in July and it's still not registered correctly. Been an f ing nightmare. I promise you, you are at the mercy of the dmv when you buy out of state. They have the power to make your life hell and will do so at a whim. They are a fully dysfunctional and corrupt organization as evidenced by one of our local offices selling drivers licenses to undocumented.

After a total of 11 hours and 3 trips to the dmv on this Tacoma I walked out with a license plate, tags and a valid reg. Then a month later I got a notice that reg was invalid due to insufficient proof of ownership. I had given them my sales contract and AZ 90 day temp reg from dealer but that wasn't good enough. Then they said I didn't pay enough fees when actually I overpaid and they said they owed a credit (still not seen yet). It turns out that after I left the dmv with plates the manager pulled my file for audit. It's still in limbo. Fortunately I sold it so now new owner trying to deal with it.

My experience was an extreme case but if you have all your info ready USUALLY it goes ok.

Another thing to remember is NV and AZ have unregulated dealer fees, unlike CA. CA doc fees are $80 while AZ and NV charge over $400, AND usually have dealer add-ons like the "desert package" of paint protection, window tint and 3M film. So those can add to the cost as well.

I find that AZ dealers are more willing to deal than so cal, so sometimes it's worth it. Despite my bad dmv experience I might still buy from AZ but I certainly won't go to the El Cajon dmv.

A dealer around the valley just emailed me and said they are 'getting' a 7568. He sent a build attachment that listed the MSRP as 36189 and wrote in the email that the 'internet price' was 37689. I replied why he though adding 1500 on top of the MSRP would make me walk into the dealership. I asked for a number that would make me walk into the dealership tomorrow.... We'll see what the says and if we go tomorrow.

it's got the stupid exhaust tip

Ahh, That's the $1500 dollar exhaust tip, we can also have it gold plated for a few hundred more:)

Kinda looking at the GM twin products cause the Toyota Tacoma prices are so wacked out (best I can do is 500 under MSRP), but it looks like they are doing the same thing since they are the other HOT mid sized truck. Then I totally remember working at the GM dealerships the past 35 years and while they do have many good things working for them, I still remember repairing their transmissions, thousands of them over the years. As for the front timing cover on the 3.6 V6 engines for the oil leaks, has this been redesigned with a real gasket or are they still using the gray gm sealant? I would really be worried about this, as heat within the engine causes the sealant to loose it's sealant capabilities. So, I'm on the fence post, do I dump a few thousand dollars into my 01 Silverado with 185000 miles on her or do I purchase something else? Also, I really wonder if the Tacoma engine is up to it's task as it is new, as is the transmission. DOH My old truck is looking ten fold better as it has been super reliable and does everything I want a truck to do, Whoa!

The Nissan Frontier looks super ugly and lacks improvements, but it maybe it's all I need to get by for a few years.

    Just thinking, Mike

I just bought my 16' TRD Sport with the premium & technology package from Toyota of Orange. I paid MSRP. They wouldn't budge a dime on it. This is the second truck I bought from them. The last one (07' TRD Sport) they came down to invoice but not this one.

And they have no need to budge since people still pay it. I went to Corona and got a better deal.

Yeah, 2001 Silverado, 185,000 miles, single cab, short bed, 4.8 V8, has that great V8 sound and moves out well when floored, lowered, can fit a 4x8 piece of plywood in the bed and even don't mind hauling retaining wall blocks in it. Did I mention it also has 4 wheel disc brakes?

My plan was to get the family down to two reliable vehicles and sell my 2012 Scion XB and 01 Silverado and purchase a new truck to use as my daily driver. It feels like it would take selling the two vehicles and still having a 30k loan out which to me just don't make sense.

What was a great selling point for the GM vehicles was their 100,000 mile powertrain warranty which they dropped for 2016, now it is just a 60K warranty which is no good as I have seen way to many engine and transmission problems on GM vehicles. On the good note, all the GM techs will be happy as they will have much more customer pay. Hum, maybe I retired to early!

So I'm going to wait till next year, as the Tacoma prices should start to come down and it will also give me an indication on how the new engine and transmission are holding up.

    Mike

You make some good points. I hope that this 'mid size truck' buying frenzy settles down, it's hard to get any leeway now with Tacoma or Canyon dealers now.

I got shafted again. Sunnyvale Toyota sold a Tacoma to a guy I know on here for 750 over invoice over the weekend. The guy was told to tell his friends. Today, I contact them to get this deal and they say no more deals on Tacoma

that's the fourth time this has happened to me. fuck this whole thing

Damn that sucks man. I spoke to Rudie at Larry H Miller and he said $1000 over invoice. Seems like the best deal in SoCal. try giving them a call.
