You should agree on a deal for the otpions you want and then give them a deposit. I would never do it any other way

thanks man. I know you tried

I had hoped to tell everyone about the (relative to this market) great deal available in Sunnyvale, but at Z50king mentioned, when he tried to get the same deal, they said "no". I even checked with the salesman before I told anyone because I know sometimes they don't want to be bothered or let anyone else know their lowest price. He encouraged me to share. Unfortunately, it appears that over the weekend the GM/SM laid down the law that the best they can do is $500 under MSRP. For the record, the deal is clean with no unusual fees or inflated prices. Every deal I have seen includes TDA in the invoice price but you have to back-calculate from the known invoice price (see sticky thread) to find it. Also, I'm really buying the option to hopefully get the truck I want someday in the future if/when Toyota fulfills the request. It's a refundable deposit, so that's the way I see it. Their current allocation is sold out, so I'm not buying anything real at this point. I'm in line. Not wild about it, but that's the best I could do in the time I have to shop.

Here's what I found calling and emailing places mentioned in this thread and a few others. Obviously it's a fluid market, so take it for what it's worth. I contacted these folks last Wednesday and Friday.

Overall, it seems that MSRP is pretty standard if you cold call them.

Pasadena Toyota: MSRP. Talked with Liz who seemed nice on the phone. She wasn't sure if they could do an invoice+ deal so I had her go ask the Sales Manager. It appears he laughed her out of his office.
Valley Hi Toyota of Victorville: MSRP
    Toyota Santa Maria: MSRP
    Gilroy Toyota: MSRP
Toyota San Luis Obispo: MSRP +$2000 They claim they have a waiting list at that price. For the record, 2015's were $2k over MSRP just a few months ago.

Merced Toyota: $250 over invoice. Greg is hard to reach and a busy guy but was pleasant on the phone. I confirmed that you have to drive up there to get the deal. He doesn't want to waste a lot of time with tire-kickers on the phone (my interpretation, not his words). Estimated 6 months for delivery. Yes, half a year.

Chris (Letsgoplaces) at Riverview Toyota in Phoenix: I didn't ask if I could mention the deal we discussed, so I'll let you contact him on your own if you are considering the trip to Phoenix. Doc fees are higher than in CA because they are not regulated. You have to watch the local sales tax but there are ways to deal with that (take delivery out of state). He has a lot of trucks so he can probably get one faster than anyone in CA that doesn't have what you want in stock. Absolutely the most awesome guy to deal with ever. He would probably donate a kidney to make the deal work. Maybe both kidneys, because you know, we have dialysis machines nowadays. I was completely shocked at his willingness to make things as easy as possible. If he were in CA, I would have been happy to buy from him because I know it would be smooth and I would get exactly what I wanted faster. He's a wiz at allocation tweaks. (Note: It would take less time to fly to Phoenix and drive back than to drive to Merced twice)

That's my brain dump. I appreciate everyone's contributions to this thread and I hope this helps someone.

that was weird haha. yeah he actually just emailed me again with one he can order. wait is around 3 weeks but again has options i wouldn't have gotten like paint protector, carpet floor mats, bed extender, 5" oval steps, spare tire lock, and exhaust tip. Most i can sell but that package is like another 1k on top

holy shit, you spoke with Liz? You must not have met her in person. My wife couldn't stop staring at her lens-less hipster glasses. She told us that this wasn't the 90s anymore and that we could never order a toyota truck. Toyota trucks are special and require an addendum on the msrp (more moneyz for her). Then she got her sales manager and awkwardly followed him around so she wouldn't have to sit with us at the table.

Anjelica was the original contact who gave a few people 500 over invoice. We spoke to her and she told us MSRP only, now

Anjelica did eventually return my email. I forgot to add that part of the story:

Unfortunately, due to high demand for the 2016 Tacoma and our store not earning enough of these trucks, we have temporarily stopped taking special orders. Should we get the trim you are looking for in stock, I would be more than happy to help you with a discount; however, since it will not be a special order, I won't be able to do it at the price of $500 over invoice. The best I would be able to do is to knock off $500 from MSRP.

whoa, whoa, that is not the information she gave us. Before they stopped taking 'special orders', they just weren't giving out 500 over invoice. I guess they finally came up with an excuse to not order at 500 over invoice

    fuck them

Hey, my local dealer is asking $2k over MSRP, so it could be worse. But yeah, I'm not digging this low inventory market.

Greg told you 6 months? Yikes. He told me 16-18 weeks when I ordered a little less than 3 weeks ago.

I had a local dealer offer me any truck on their lot for 5000 over msrp.

that's what happens when a small dealership with low monthly volume starts getting a shit ton of orders for one line of trucks. They are far down on the list for allocation requests and there are a lot of people in front of you

It's also possible that Greg wanted me to go away and quoting a 6 month lead-time was a harmless way of making it happen.
