2015? they will start paying interest on it, soon. Unless the place has enough money to buy every vehicle outright

For a 2016 trd DC lb. I guess they think it's better to hold and wait for a guy to pay msrp

Smart. especially with the Fed possibly raising the interest rate, might change some things. I know it would be a good idea to lock in a low interest rate with your local credit union as they might rise come December...

That truck is worth more to them sitting on the lot than selling to you at a discounted price. Even if it's sitting there, it's a 2016 to look at and test drive and helping create a sell for a custom order. Eventually the right person will come by that wants this exact set up and pay the asking price. Right now it's a selling tool for them. It's damn near impossible to nickel and dime dealers on the top selling midsized truck that's only been on the lot for 2 months.

I work in Carlsbad, next to Oceanside.

Any luck in the Escondido or Carlsbad dealer? Do you know if either are Costco partners?

I just joined the Tacoma Forum and I too am looking for a Tacoma in Northern California. I also find that all the dealers up north do not want to back off of the MRSP pricing (only on the stripped down I4 models). It used to be if I wanted to purchase a new vehicle, I would head down to Southern Cali for better pricing, but not on a Tacoma. For what they want for a Tacoma, I might as well purchase a Tundra!

I have yet tried to walk into a dealer to haggle, but have not received any real discounts on email pricing to many of the dealers in Norcal.

I might have to rethink the truck plan and put a few dollars into my high mileage 2001 Silverado till next year when the prices might come down?

    Welcome to TW.
Prices won't go below 3k even next November. That's something we have discussed around the forum. People are willing to pay a premium for a taco.

Why a taco over a tundra? Best answer. Mpg. Real world mpg we are seeing 13mpg on the tundra and 18+ on the taco. Yes, the Tundra has more to offer but it's comes with a premium that you may not like. And don't forget about insurance.

If I was trying to buy a new taco, Southern California is the way to go. Chances of finding your ideal truck is higher, if avaliable in this region, due the amount that we have out here. And also, if you find two you can pin two dealers on a similar model you may get a few hundred dollars off.

About your Silverado. I'm hoping you plan to keep it. If you drop $1000 on new shocks, sparks and cables, new fluids including steering and a good scrub and detail. You can drive it for another year no problem.

For another $1000 you can get yourself a new set of good tires and maybe a new stereo.

Dealers won't give you anything for it. You can also drop those $2000 and make a bigger profit if you sell third party.

    Just my two cents.

HECK NO. We live a affluent area in the U.S. as you know. I went to both dealerships and tried to work out a deal. I was at Toyota Escondido negotiating for 6 hours and had my wife furious. Next, I went to Toyota Carlsbad and went through "Costco" but the internet sales manager basically said "the truck is to new and hot, that we don't have any discounts for this vehicle". He goes on to say, "Dealers all throughout Southern California are selling them at MSRP, or even over". I basically walked out, and told him I didn't care to buy any vehicle at MSRP. @James_Bond honestly, wait, wait, wait. The Federal Reserve is going to up interest rates, and it's going to change buying power for consumer. The Federal Reserve likes to take the punch bowl away before the party gets out of control, and consumers be irresponsible over cheap money. My guess, in relation to buying a Tacoma will be better for us who want a discount off MSRP

Sh!t. That's one thing about Toyota. They can sell it to you at MSRP or you can walk.
I am going to wait. I was planning on buying this December but finally convinced my
self that April is a better month.

And one more thing. I want the DCLB Sport which I have been having a really hard time
finding out here. And when I do find one, it gets sold the same day.

If I were you. I'll would tell the Carlsbad dealer that they are going to hear it from Costco.
I would report that. Why do dealers associate themselves if they are going to do MSRP
anyways. Sounds like Costco will dishonor them and send all their customers somewhere else.

    Thanks James,

You are 100 percent correct! What I was trying to accomplish was down sizing to 2 vehicles (have 3 at the moment, plus 4 motorcycles). My 2001 Silverado has been a fantastic truck, it now has 185,000 miles on it and it still runs great. It comes down now to reliability, as I do drive down to Southern California a few times a year to visit my daughter in San Diego. The weak link in it would be the transmission as it is original. By my screen name, you might of guessed I was a GM/Chevrolet tech for 35 years and guess what, I specialized in rebuilding transmissions. But, I am so burnt out on working on cars and while yes, I could overhaul my own transmission for a low cost, I just don't feel the love anymore of wrenching. So, yes, I will sell it but they are not bringing in very much money now. I do also plan to sell my 2012 Scion Xb to off set some of the cost.

I did find a few Access cab SR5 2wd with a V6 for under MRSP at two different dealers which I may check out this weekend.

    Thanks, Mike
    Mike

there are plenty of DCLB Sports around the LA area. There has been an MGM in base model sitting at Culver City Toyota for 2 weeks, now. I hope you go there and shove your price down their throats... They tried to sell us a truck they didn't have for 9k over msrp after telling us they could sell it to us.

I am interested in this Costco thing, now that you write about a dealership not honoring their pricing. Costco has always taken our side on issues like this. Interesting...

I just put my information in and got this messge. I guess it only works if you buy the vehicle, though.

Haven't you guys been monitoring the other threads? Sunnyvale Toyota in the SF bay is selling the new taco for $500 over invoice... Several people have received this offer and ordered through them.

Well, Sunnyvale doesn't stock very many Tacoma's, but yes, I guess if you place an order with them, you might get the $500 over invoice. I'm looking for something in stock cause I hate to be stuck with something special ordered, if there is a problem. Just thinking......

Yes, we are not going the order route. My build is taking 16 to 20 weeks and we believe there will be an excess of that build in 16 to 20 weeks... No use in putting an order down

Also, the more orders one dealer gets for the same model number, they longer it takes for yours to come up. 7568 at those places with hundreds over invoice is gonna take a lonnnggggg time

Well I caved in and settled for 500 off MSRP

Put a deposit on a truck that is scheduled to deliver to the dealer in 2-3 weeks.

MGM TRD OFF ROAD DOUBLE CAB 4X4 SB AUTO

Not the best deal but exactly what I was looking for and no more hunting for a truck (maybe) :)

this guy just impressed me with his email:

    Eric,

I would like to ask a favor of you. Please present me with a challenge that I would need to overcome for you to consider Toyota and Scion of Huntington Beach for your next vehicle purchase. It could be anything: Price, Trade Value, Payment or even a different vehicle than you were originally considering. Allow me the opportunity and I will get the job done.
