I pretty much agree with everything you said. I usually like to wake up and get breakfast started around sunrise, campfires are pretty much a requirement for me as well unless there's restrictions, campsite views are always something I try to aim for, marked roads/trails are the only option, and self-sufficiency to the max extent possible with the understanding that all of us should be willing to lend a hand to each other.

    @Cuffs

    In response to your comments:

    - 9 am to be rolling out of camp. I am an early riser and will wake up either slightly before (to capture some pictures) the sunrise, or right at sunrise. I want to explore the areas around camp and make a decent breakfast, but 3-4 hours to do that is plenty for me.

    - I can share my Excel prep list with you if you would like, to help you lock down some 'necessary' supplies. And like @PcBuilder14 said, part of the journey is being able to rely on each other. I plan on making us all breakfast at least twice, and dinner at least twice. Though I don't drink heavily, I'll be bringing a few local Flagstaff brews on the trip to share with everyone. That's part of the fun!

    - Sticking together is definitely the way to go for me. Tied to the point above, I plan on everyone working together, so there should be limited worries there.

I'll take a moment to highlight my main weakness: Route planning. PcBuilder appears to have that well planned out, so that's nice to see. I will have maps of the area, and I'll look them over, but I currently lack the GPS and sophisticated apps that really pinpoint our progress.

I'd also recommend either an entire trip, or by the day, leader of the convoy. Someone whose job it is to make sure we are all moving along in a timely manner. Not in a militant fashion, mind you, but in a 'Hey, let's move along to get to camp before 9 PM' type.

I'd also recommend (which will happen when we all meet up) that each person picks a dedicated spotter that they use when the need arises. Nothing quite as confusing as listening to 2 or 3 people shout differing input, due to differing vantage points and mentalities, whilst attempting to navigate a tricky obstacle.

Thanks for reading my rambling thoughts..

    - Mike

My wife and I are looking for our 3rd annual pilgrimage to Utah during that time. We unfortunately lost our normal off-roading companion. My wife is a hiker and camper. She tolerates riding up to a point, but wants to put down miles with her feet. If it looks like she will have enough opportunities to jump out while we work through hard spots and get in her quota, we may join. I’ll start looking at video and the different trails.

    Hiker and camper here too!

@PcBuilder14 I may have to move from the 'definite' list to the 'maybe' list. I'll be at OEX in Flagstaff, but may not get away until the weekend is over and its wrapped up. (Im a volunteer there).

Back to @TacoAlaMode, I'll be headed home after Flagstaff to right near Zion NP. Would your wife be interested in hiking there while you made the back road trip?? Im originally from Alabama (Athens, actually). Might be able to work something out if youre both interested!

You were in Scottsboro in March for a wedding. You chimed in on my mod/meet and greet day thread. That might be a possibility, we are just getting started on the ideas of if/how we can satisfy both of our interests with this.

That was me! (And Scottsboro was a blast!)

You’re both welcome to PM any ideas and/or questions if you like. There’s SO much to see and do in This area!

Be glad to have you along! Just let me know. If everybody that goes is up for it, there are quite a few awesome hikes and areas to explore along this route.
No worries. I was originally planning on going to the expo on Saturday and then head for the first camp spot that night. But decided to back out of expo this year.

Still looking into this. Been on a couple of trips but none where I had to bring spare parts :)

Need to get my winch powered but I have everything else covered like camping gear, recovery and armor.

I'm considering buying the Garmin GPS phone.

I’m on the Maybe list... I’ll be at OEx but not leaving until Sunday. And I’ll akso have my tear drop in tow... (it will be for sale while there, so I might be heading back light. If that’s the cascade, I will join in for a night or two. )

Bad timing for me, unfortunately. A rental unit of mine became vacant a few days ago, and it is undergoing a studs out remodel, so I am beyond busy until the end of June. Which sucks because this trip basically starts where I live.

I will be paying attention to your trip report/progress, so have fun!

So of course as soon as I try to start getting an idea of who is for sure in, I may have to cancel this trip due to work conflicts just like last year. I'll hopefully know more by the end of the week, but I may have to go out of town.

The road will still be there. For all of us, whenever we are able to go. That’s the nice part.

    I agree!

@PcBuilder14, if you push it back into August or September I will have the ability to join in on the adventure!
