I wanna know one thing.... How is a tech or service mgr gonna know the chemical composition of the wire coating?
Let me guess... Those shop fuckers are going to be standing around the water cooler on a break and one of them says "Hey, I took a sample of wire coating home with me last night, added acetate to the sample, spun 'er up in the centrifuge, run it through the ol mass spectrometer and boom! I found
    C5H10N2O3 "
I call bullshit. A Toyota rep won't know either. Gotta go deep, much deeper than a dealer or first line at Toyota to find composition of wire coverings. You guys are just perpetuating the myths man.

By the way, that is the proper chemical formula for soy plastic...

Well, dick, if you noticed, that post was edited after I posted. I don't know you or your credentials, didn't give a shit enough to look up your profile. It's entirely possible my dealer isn't informed, haven't found them to mislead me in the past, so I took their word. It appears now that I got bad information. So glad you have found it necessary to be a dick in your posts, did it make you feel superior?

Soooo… if soy isn’t used in the manufacture of automotive wiring insulation then someone should tell the industry that commissioned testing that purportedly demonstrates no differences in non-soy containing and soy-containing materials was not necessary.

Any lawsuits claiming soy containing wiring resulted in more frequent rodent damage would be pretty easy to dismiss simply based on the wiring doesn’t actually contain soy. Haven’t found a link to such a case, perhaps TW experts have a link lol.
I once had a rat gnaw through power cable insulation many years ago, but never on my vehicles and never heard of it back in the day. A bit surprising to see so many incidents these days. I make no claim other than it appears there is some validity to the use of soy in automotive wire insulation manufacture (pvc, etc) due to the desire to go green.
i anticipate at some point in the future the entire Tacoma will be edible. :D

Keep googling and find out why the industry went soy based in the first place...
Hint: Lawsuits to stop vinyl based covering because...chemicals.. were common. They went soy based and...lawsuits.
No win either way for manufacturers.

Plenty of cats in my neighborhood so rats and squirrels are not an issue around vehicles.

It's not just the wiring, your entire truck is made of soy. Vegan taco for the L.

And....back in the 70's the companies making traditional vinyl coated wires were, um, not so environment friendly and groups started sueing auto manufacturers for using the wire.

The world was an environmental nightmare in the 60's and 70's. Lots of bad things have been cleaned up but sometimes, the cure was worse than the disease.

Be mindful about not leaving grass seed in your garage. Mice chewed into a grass seed bag making a mess and leaving poop. My Wife hates rodents, so I had to put traps (ones like in post #15) and rat bait around my garage. I have dog who is never in the garage but I still strategically placed the rat bait and traps where a K9 can not get to it. My Wife is very grateful for my effort, but secretly I am trying to protect our Toyota soy wiring.
