I’ve only made one launch- STS-122 back in 2008. It got delayed to the point where it coincided w a trip we already had planned.

It’s gonna be hopping again down there with the new companies and technologies being developed. You and your kids are fortunate to be there at this time.

So this is in relation to the failed booster landing attempt on the last F9 flight.

How is it not hardware? Not a challenge, just trying to figure it out.

Also, do you know if they closed that investigation? If so, that’s one box to check off for the RTF from US soil next month

Jetty Park was closed, which was where I originally planned on going. So we stopped on the side of the causeway near a bridge and watched from there. Pretty neat being closer, but wish I were even closer!!!

Were you close enough to feel the rumble in your chest?
I've been about 4 miles away from launches at Vandenberg.

Unfortunately we were not nearly that close. I will have to look it up and see about how close I was as the crow flies.
Once things get back to normal, I’m going to try to take advantage of the Kennedy Space Center visitors complex viewing areas. With the annual pass, admission is free to those areas, and from what I saw while out at the bleachers it’s a LOT closer.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know why the heck my photos uploaded sideways? It drives me nuts that I look like a noob not being able to get them to turn the correct orientation. They’re normal on my phone, and I even tried rotating them then uploading them only to find they are still sideways. o_O

I think it depends on your phone. Google is prolly the quickest way to figure it out.

Yeah. The failed #5 landing attempt. Sounds like a sensor got jammed by their cleaning procedure (versus hardware failure from part wear and tear), eg ops error (not software or hardware issues).

    April was the earliest date.

Current plan (pre-virus) was between April and November 2021.

At this point I feel like we are never going to see another manned NASA launch vehicle. I’ve been waiting to see the next rocket since I began working on the Constellation program in 2007.

Liked for your observation, not the fact NASA doesn’t have a manned vehicle.

Maybe this IS the end of a govt developed system. The bureaucracy and inflated costs are making it untenable.

Unfortunately, I tend to agree with you.

My Dad worked on Apollo back in the day, and we all saw Apollo 13 liftoff at the Cape. I've been working on SLS for past several years, and was thinking how cool it would be if he and my Mom could join me at the launch of SLS.

I really wonder if that will ever happen. :(

    Owch.

I'm sure they'll get at least one launch, before it's eclipsed by Starship and New Armstrong.

The Constellation / Ares / SLS progression though..
