    Safely back.

I hope those assholes in the recovery area get arrested, boats impounded, imprisoned then fined.

    Where the fuck is security?

SpaceX slightly disclosed where the splashdown location was going to be and of course there was an entourage of people out there in their personal boats interfering with the recovery and causing an unsafe environment for everyone including themselves.

Bleh, really ruined the moment for me.

I'm sure they'll have improved security for the next splashdown. It wasn't a good look - not that I blame SpaceX. You think people would have more sense than to approach a spacecraft venting toxic fumes.

I had the same sentiment, I was aggravated that those people thought that they had some sort of right to be there. In my opinion it’s the same as a launch when they restrict the waterways surrounding the Cape, it’s for their safety as well.
I really hope they were all cited.

On what jurisdictional grounds? Apparently it's in international waters, so at most you can't interfere with ops.

Might have needed more/better coordination with the CG, but it's outside of 12 so you can't do a safety zone.

On grounds that it’s un-American to fuck with American spacecrafts. Call me old fashion.

I’d say 4 US Navy Seahawks would’ve done the job in territorial, international or whatever waters the Dragon splashed down in.

Edit: Re - better, more kickass photo

In hindsight, it seems really unprepared for SpaceX to not have something in place for this scenario. As a private company operating for a government administration you’d think they’d have backing from an armed force at their disposal.
As much as I understand the whole international waters thing, I agree with @PzTank that if you’re an American with any common sense, you respect the operations at hand with a high degree.

This was covered in the presser after Bob and Doug disembarked. Both Bridenstein and Shockwell answered questions and stated it was going to be addressed for future flights. They got more committed to the safety as follow up questions were asked. Near the end, Gwen went to to describe this as one of the glitches that was going to be addressed and that this was, in fact, a demo flight and ALL aspects of the mission were going to be analyzed including these incursions.
