That sonic boom from the booster last night was EPIC!!! Too cloudy to see anything from my home, but the rumble was so much louder than other launches due to the trajectory.

    Going up or coming back?

Seeing the burn to get it back to KSC was wild.

Watching it on YT was wild...

    The whole thing was wild:D

Rumble going up, boom coming back. That would have been one to see in person!
Been tied up with a bunch of other stuff recently and have been slipping on my space stuff watching!

Too bad I missed out on your patch giveaway! Good on you for paying it forward!

Saw it from my office window, of course it was just a speck since I’m 25 miles further away from it at the office. It’s funny how the Starlink installation launches are making it seem so normal to have launches so often.
I remember when the shuttle program was active and I’d see one go up while in traffic, or doing yard work, and it seemed like such a regular thing, but once it stopped I really missed it.
Glad things are so active with space again (from US soil, and everywhere else)!

I read that Miss. Tree & Miss. Chief were spotted with just pieces of fairings. So I’m thinking they didn’t catch them. Which I’m kind of surprised there’s just pieces, normally even when they miss them and fish them out of the water, they are still in tact.

    Right!

Both wikipedia and Musk identify the big bell housing version of the RaptorVac - the version for use in a vacuum.

I think Starship as currently planned has three sea leave Raptors - the smaller bell housing- and three RaptorVacs.

Superheavy was recently described as having 28 sea level Raptors but upwards of 31 in the past. The reduction was attributed to the new record set in achieving internal pressure (= more thrust).

Considering the fleet of Starships he envisions, there’s gonna be hundreds to thousands of these made.

It’s the first engine of its design to take flight and is intended for rapid reusability. Once perfected and put into production, I can’t help but think SpaceX will come up with a wildly different next gen.

Hundreds to thousands (if it happens) just means we, as a species, colonize space quicker. And that, is something that can only be good.

Would you go to Mars given the opportunity?
