WOW, that's really sad, compared to South Korea's internet speeds the USA is a third world streaming country. :(

There are pros and cons to living in every area on earth. When you're miles from your closest neighbor you have privacy and don't have to deal with people. But you also can't go online and deal with people.

Yes, but people who compare other countries to the USA don't usually know what they're talking about. Most countries are smaller than California. There are in fact only 12 states that are smaller than South Korea.

Square miles of South Korea 38,691
    Square miles of California 163,696
    Square miles of USA 3,797,000

You have all the facts correct, but still, as that article stated, it's sad a teacher can't have a connection stable enough to teach from home, so he has to go into the school to use their internet connection.

I have little to no sympathy however. In this day and age, in this country, you CHOOSE where you live with both the pros and the cons. They chose to live in the middle of no where, now they have to wait for technology to reach them. No matter which method, it will cost Billions, if not Trillions to get a very few people high speed internet access. If it is such a major draw back, they can CHOOSE to move closer to problems, but then they can have their 4k pornhub streams.

TBF Canada is farther ahead in our rollout of fiber to the residential door and we have a real low density issue. That being said we pay for it other ways. The government here linked all the schools, and thus most small towns, with fiber back in the 2000s. Now those lines form the backbone of the Canadian network.

There's a number in youtube showing 120mbps and faster downloads with 20mbps+ uploads. Plenty fast enough to do anything on. A frequent comment I've found has been small 15ish second drops in service that one video correlated to gaps in starling satellite coverage going over his house.

I believe they have a little over 1,000 satellites right now. The coverage and reliability "should" get better as they get closer to the 12,000 and the eventual 40,000. I heard a rumor they might do a public offering, I thought Elon had learned his lesson with that.

    No rumor-

Also, your ‘blame the teacher for where he chooses to live’ argument is complete bullshit. America has neglected it’s infrastructure as long as we’ve been building it.

So where do you draw the line? Are you going to run paved roads, water, sewer, and gas to every home too? How are you going to fund this endeavor? Using South Korea as an example since they rank as one of the best networked countries, and they're tiny, they STILL don't have high speed internet in rural areas, but we should do it on a scale literally 100X larger? Where are you going to get the TRILLIONS to do it?

The truth is that only recently, with the advancements spacex has made in driving rocket costs down has it even been feasible to provide high speed internet to rural areas.

Just a question, why do you try to strawman arguments? There is a big difference between running paved roads, water, sewer, and gas to every home and running fiber or installing microwave links to bridge gaps (Canada has done this it works, oh and we have gas to every rural home in the provinces and it wasn't hard to do lol). It's not impossible for a country of 400 million to link 90% of people to a highspeed network of some sort. Your arguments would be a lot stronger if you didn't try to deflect and exaggerate your positions. You're not a politician, you don't need to do that to get heard and listened to here.

How is it sad that the teacher has to go to work to do their job? I don't see a problem with that honestly. There are a ton of improvements that can be made to the US infrastructure but I would rank high speed internet access pretty close to the bottom of the list.

How about US cellular service lol. I can't believe how bad it is. I know maybe one or two spots in Alberta where you can't get cell phone service and those areas are extremely remote and mountainous. Every time I drive down to Moab there are several spots on the Interstate where there isn't cell phone service and 4G isn't even available on half the route. Keep in mind this is on a Canadian phone with a Telus SIM that can access almost every US network on roaming. Honestly, it's sort of comical.

You’re using Moab as an example for the other 99.999999% of the US population?

can we get back to rockets? Hahaha.

ETA: I went fishing once about an hour north of thousand islands, I had no cell service the entire time I was there.
I don’t extrapolate that out to the rest of the country.
    It’s anecdotal.

So you're telling me that every house in the northwest territories has a gas line to their house? I have doubts.
