Definitely a good example of how the descent is initially targeted away from the drone ship or landing pad, in case failures like this happen.

In the future, Elon hopes to upgrade the booster safety systems so that rogue boosters can be used to target congressmen, the FAA, shareholders, and board members who stand in his way :bananadead:

Looks like it got a little toasty at the reentry burn (the shutoff looked kinda messy)

You and Manley are on the same page re: seagulls... Great minds think alike... unless,,,, you

    Scott Manley

That’s an awesome episode. Thanks for posting it!!!

Loved the view (and plausible explanation of ‘active fairing half’) of the fairing separation and the second stage- terrific stuff

Seagulls are in fact a protected species (under a larger umbrella) of migratory bird due to their natural coastal habitat being fragile.

The issue is they got a little too good at recovering, and are in fact, rats with wings. But if you were to harm some, expect a hefty bill.

Share the Thrill of the Perseverance Rover Landing on Mars

After nearly 300 million miles, our Perseverance rover completes its journey to Mars on Thursday, Feb. 18. To reach the surface of the Red Planet, it has to survive the harrowing final phase known as Entry, Descent, and Landing.

Only then can the six-wheeled rover – the biggest, heaviest, cleanest, and most sophisticated robotic geologist ever launched into space – search Jezero Crater for signs of ancient life and collect samples that will eventually be returned to Earth.

Tune in for live coverage and landing commentary from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) beginning at 2:15 p.m. EST on the NASA TV Public Channel and the agency’s website, as well as the NASA App, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitch, Daily Motion, and THETA.TV. Touchdown is scheduled for approximately 3:55 p.m. EST.

Additional landing shows include Juntos Perseveramos, a one-hour program in Spanish, and Mission Control Live, an immersive 360-degree view at our control room at JPL. Get our guide on this page to the TV programs coming up you can watch online.

Be Our Guest – Connect with like-minded space enthusiasts and take part in other virtual activities by signing up for the Virtual NASA Social event on Facebook. You can also sign up for our virtual guest experience with notifications about mission updates and a virtual passport stamp available after landing.

Interactive Experiences – You also can try out a virtual photo booth that allows you to pose next to the Perseverance rover, send your name on the next mission to Mars, listen to the differences between sounds on Mars and Earth, and check out other interactive experiences on the mission’s website.

Lighting Towns Red Around the World – To celebrate landing, the Empire State Building in New York is lighting its tower red. Other sites in the United States recognizing the upcoming landing include the Los Angeles International Airport, and select buildings along the Chicago skyline, such as the Adler Planetarium.

One way or another, NASA lands on Mars tomorrow. Hopefully in a controlled manner.

It's the polar opposite of air travel, lithobraking is the fastest way to stop.

Nope! Who knows, if that happened maybe I’d make a buck or two off it :D

Edit: Don’t get me wrong, I’d much rather have a successful EDL than make a buck on it.
